About this deal

Heating to 60c takes ~50 seconds and reaching 100c takes less than 2:30 minutes. Excellent results considering the size.

3D Printing User Support – Artillery3d

Unfortunately, there is no power cable strain relief installed, so this is one of the first prints i did. Mwww has a great design available on Thingiverse. Please make sure you print this upgrade because without proper strain relief on the heatbed cable, issues may occur and considering there’s mains voltage in those cables this can be a death hazard. Quality control is not the best, and some parts are not assembled correctly (Z rod couplers, motor pulleys). At this point, you can tell that the SWX1 has been improved quite a bit. Save for the cables that seem all over, I love the improvements. So far, it's been a few weeks constantly printing. As most starting out, there was a learning curve learning the culture and technicalities in the 3D printing world. The X1 Artillery Sidewinder has been a good choice to better understand and learn how to be an avid 3D printer. In my opinion, the BMG Wind is an excellent direct drive extruder upgrade for any kind of printer. If you are looking for a compact extruder with excellent filament control, then this is the upgrade to get. It can improve print quality with a small cost. The Sidewinder X2 inherits the classic design of the Sidewinder X1: simple, superbly processed and characterised by an extraordinary texture.

The Creality3D Ender does a really good job and has a lot of fans. This means you will easily find help, mods, tutorials, etc. In addition, the heating bed is smaller, which means that you will save energy. For me, the primary advantage of converting a budget machine like the Artillery Genius to use linear rails is for ease of maintenance: unlike the POM roller wheels and eccentric nuts, linear rails don’t need to be carefully adjusted to fit *juuust* right; and, if kept properly lubricated, they will not wear out or need to be replaced. You *may* also see improvements in print quality—particularly if your existing rollers are a little worse for wear—but a properly-tuned roller wheel setup will produce results every bit as good. It just won’t stay that way without a little bit of TLC. If you’d rather spend your time, say, working on other projects rather than nurturing your rollers, linear rails might be for you!

As you can see, my TFT connector was full of glue so I had to remove the cable including the connector. Carefully remove any glue that might be around the connector, then using the included USB cable, connect your printer to the computer. Sidewinder X1’s base is made from a metal sheet. On top of it, the heatbed (or Y axis) runs on a 60x20mm aluminum extrusion which is great for stability. The current firmware is currently outdated. Please use Digant’s firmware. He maintains it better than me and he also added a lot more functionality to the touchscreen. Why should you upgrade to Marlin 2.0.5.3? The Z axis assembly consists of 40×20 aluminium extrusions. It has dual motors with dual lead screws lifting the X axis. Klipper is an open-source firmware for your 3D printer that combines the power of a Raspberry Pi and your printer main board for better printer control. By doing this, You are able to run your printer at higher speeds with better precision and control. Why Install Klipper on Sidewinder X1? After flashing the firmware, make sure you first run the G-Code provided, to reset to factory defaults and clear EEPROM. Copy the .gcode file on your SD Card and “print” it. The Sidewinder X2 resumes the printing process without any problems after a power failure and triggers an alarm if the filament runs out.

I wrote a detailed guide on how to calibrate the Artillery Sidewinder X1 to get the best results possible. Now the next step is to… Well print! :D. There is much more to Klipper that you can do. If you’d like to talk more about Klipper, find me on the 3DPrintBeginner Discord Klipper thread and the Artillery Discord. My username is Clank. Hopefully, this article was helpful to you and now you have the BMG Wind installed on your Sidewinder X1. If you have any issues along the way, feel free to post a comment.

Read the full guide carefully and install Klipper on Sidewinder X1 only after you properly understood all the steps involved. If you have questions before starting, leave a comment and wait for a reply. With the Sidewinder X2, manual levelling of the print bed is no longer necessary, the 3D printer does it easily by itself, which avoids levelling errors and saves a lot of time.
