Out of the box, this reflector comes with everything the observer needs to shoot pleasing images of the Moon, bright planets and more luminous deep-sky targets. It's not possible to partake in long-exposure images, but as an introduction to astrophotography the AstroMaster 130EQ is certainly worth a look – especially given the very reasonable price tag, clear and crisp views and excellent overall build. Honestly I would not worry about the mirror, it will work fine. If there is no corrector lens in the focuser drawtube it is likely a parabolic. If you are familiar with EQ mounts, you’ll recognize it as a metal EQ2 mount covered in plastic. But don’t let the plastic covering fool you – it’s still a sturdy, well-built mount. Your scope should feel right at home and give good views with a wide range of eyepieces. By this i mean, you dont need to invest in expensive eyepieces. It will happily be able to use Plossl design eyepieces. Some are better than others but essentially they are all roughly about 30-40 quid.

But be sure to hang it on the middle main body of the mount where the legs are connected, not on an accessory tray, which could break. The remote focuser also looks like something I’ll look into. Will definitely make things a bit easier. While spherical mirrors have a cheaper design, they suffer from spherical aberration, which is more of a problem with larger mirrors.I took the EQ mount and used it on my Celestron Powerseeker 114, which provides quality views despite the spherical mirror because of its longer focal length (F/7.9). I have to point out and praise the Celestron for the metal legs because many other expensive scopes are supplied with aluminum legs which in my opinion are worthless. Even if the mount has slow-motion right ascension and declination adjustment knobs, keeping the object in view is hard because of the earth’s rotation. To the extent where if I use the slow motion controls or try to adjust focus the image will go out of focus until it stops again. Although manageable I would prefer to not have to deal with this.
