About this deal

What the difference is (if any) between these two types of bitumen paint (those that say you can use on wood, and those which leave it out) I don't know, but it would seem it depends upon the make you get whether you should apply to wood or not. Reseal tin after use. Clean up any spills immediately with water. Wash brushes in warm, soapy water. Curing (hardening) time is up to 3 weeks in normal conditions. Treat gently until curing is complete. Always ensure you have enough paint for your whole project. When more than 1 tin of the same colour is needed, it is good practice to ensure batch numbers are identical or to intermix batches prior to commencing painting.

Carbosil Bitumen Aluminium is for over-coating bitumen-based surfaces. It helps protect surfaces from heat/UV light damage, with a decorative coating and will enhance the lifespan of bitumen-type roofing materials. The flexible, heat resistant and solar reflective surface has outstanding weather resistance and durability. Ideal for use on roof structures, storage tanks, silos, mobile homes and caravan roofs. Reflects heat in the summer and insulates in the winter. Ready to use, this Everbuild paint should not be thinned and can be applied by spray or brush. A minimum of two layers should be added to the surface. The first coating should be left to dry before applying the second which typically takes two to four hours depending on weather conditions. Chalk and mineral paint formulated for wooden furniture. Also suitable for laminate, powder coated radiators, UPVC, ceramic wall tiles (we recommend avoiding very wet areas like shower/bath surrounds). Here is some useful information about painting tiles. Can be used for internal walls – in this case, thinning with up to 10% tap water is advised to ease application. For ferrous metal, treat rust, remove any loose or flaking coatings and sand smooth - in these circumstances, we recommend 2 coats of Frenchic Finishing Coat as a base for the paint. Prepare the surface well by removing dust, oil, grease, old coatings and surface contaminants. A primer is not usually needed with bitumen paint but occasionally for additional protection of bare metal surfaces, prime with Zinc Rich Primer or Metal Primer. Use fast dry etching primer for non-ferrous metals. Bituminous paints are generally used as an aid in waterproofing and to resist corrosion in iron and steel. I consider this approach to painting to be similar to that of recommending PVA as a primer coat for an emulsion paint system. You may be storing up future problems. However, I trialled this a number of years ago, and have since used it on both smooth planed timber fascias and rough sawn wood. Not only does it give a beautiful finish, but there have been no signs of flaking whatsoever, and all that timber is South-facing. Some trellis work which only received a single coat is now showing areas of weathering - but no flaking. A top-up coat can just be slapped on to the secure layer below.

It is not wise to use bituminous paints on general painted surfaces. If applied over existing paint the solvent may soften the paint beneath. If subsequently painted over with an ordinary oil paint then it will bleed through. We have a small canopy to a building that has two 200x200x6.3thk SHS steel columns bolted to concrete foundations circa 500mm below ground level.Sure, a professional would never recommend doing such a thing - the cumulative sharp intakes of breath alone would deem against it.
