But even though I enjoyed it there were things that I didn't like all that much. Mostly the pacing of the story that sometimes felt a little too rushed. Like the heroine was constantly having these events happen one after the other, like break ins, fight clubs, and family drama. It made it feel never ending and from one problem to the next there wasn't enough time always to really see the effects. And then there were the real life author references that honestly felt really weird. The heroine and hero reading together was really cute but bringing up an actual book by Kandi Steiner and even going into detail about it was just odd in my opinion. An incredibly pacy, heart-pounding thriller – the twist at the end left me reeling. B A Paris does it again in this exhilarating exploration of love, jealousy and betrayal. A must read!’ Phoebe Morgan I was captivated from the beginning of this one, I couldn’t put it down. It was a one sitting kind of read! I found myseld relating to each character in one way or another. The mentions of mental illness’s are described so perfectly as well, it’s a true picture of what it’s like to deal with mental health issues. Review: I’m really excited to have another Kristen Granata book to read after almost a year! And in true Kristen writing, she gave us characters dealing with real life struggles and mental health issues that everyone can relate to. I love that she never shies away from the hard topics and always makes you stop and think about how you might have behaved in a similar situation. Another thing Kristen does well is give you a bunch of incredible supporting characters to love and root for, whether they get their own books or not. I was so close to marking this a dnf but I kept going even though I was struggling to want to read.

There is no doubt that this talented author has captured the domestic noir genre to perfection and her ability to control a complicated plot, whilst holding the reader’s attention, from start to finish, is to her credit. It's pretty obvious by now, how much I love Kristen's writing and storylines. I love that she always has a good balance between romance and mental health awareness in almost all of her books, but this one hit different. Has Finn’s missing, presumed dead, girlfriend, returned after twelve years when he starts a relationship with her sister. Who is telling the truth about the past? All seem to have something to hide. Well, the rest of the book is really sad and depressing but you feel all the emotions the characters are feeling because it is very well-written. Everything feels real, even the raw pain! So, even though you, for sure, know where the story is going, you go on reading to experience it.This took me a day to read and kept me reading mainly because I wanted to find out if the unlikeable main characters got their just deserts.

I want to ride my boat on tragedy. And this book felt like an involuntary therapy session. I can’t say anything about their love story since it hasn’t started yet at this point. James has a younger brother Leo, who Pheonix has a bond with instantly as they both struggle with some of the same issues. Leo made me laugh and made me want to cry all at the same time. He was an instant favorite of mine & I hope we get to see more of him in the future. James Russo blames himself for being unable to save his mother years ago. Now he’s made it his life’s mission to help everyone he can. So when he catches a glimpse of his beautiful new neighbor crying through her bedroom window, he’s determined to be her refuge. THE NEW TWISTY, GRIPPING READ FROM B.A. PARIS, THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING NOVELS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND THE BREAKDOWN Then, there is this “happy end” – I mean “a second chance in happiness” but as you may guess, it is a bitter-sweet one and I really really really had a hard time with the “timing of this second chance in happiness”...I 'm pretty sure that this review is one of the shortest I've ever written, but it's important for you to go into this story completely blind. Even the smallest information could spoil the entire story for you. I'm glad I didn't know anything beforehand. It definitely intensified the experience. And let's not even talk about the drama and the "plot twist" that happened out of nowhere at 90% of this book. All things set aside: this book felt like what I needed to hear at this exact moment in my life. It was a good reminder that I'm not alone in this journey, despite what my inner voice might tell me sometimes.

The twist that I found amazing was quite unrealistic. There was a lot in this book that wasn’t quite believable and I did have trouble reading it at my usual fast pace. Finn and Ellen are supposed to be in love but you can’t tell from him constantly leaving the house and barely spending time with her. Yes, this is part of the story, but it made me feel disconnected from the characters. There really wasn’t much depth to any of them.Twelve years ago, whilst stopping for a break on their return holiday from France, Layla mysteriously disappears from the car. She is not found and Finn moves on with his life. Overall I really enjoyed this book and despite the heavy subject matter it was a fun story to read. The characters were interesting in their own way and I thought it was great how we got to see the heroine and hero each having their own struggles and dealing with them in different ways. I am so in love with this book, I love it so much more because it's not something Micalea would normally write, definitely out of her comfort zone, but I find the books that authors are most nervous about releasing are the best kind of books... This book for Micalea has been TEN LONG BLOODY YEARS in the making and I'm so grateful and happy that she was finally able to write it and release it.. I… I don’t know. I understand this brings up a lot for you, and that’s why I wanted to talk to you about it.” Mine. I will do everything in my power to protect her, to never let her feel an ounce of pain ever again. She’s mine, and I’m hers. Nothing will change that, and nothing will take her from me ─whatever may come.”
