About this deal

The Royal Salute liquid is 21 year old blended Scotch whisky. Despite being a blend of different whiskies, Royal Salute’s “home” is said to be the Strathisla distillery (which is the oldest working distillery in Scotland, having been founded in 1786). Beyond this hint from Chivas Brothers that part of Royal Salute’s recipe may be Strathisla single malt whisky, there is not much more official information about the malt and grain whiskies that make up this iconic blended Scotch.

Let's get into the review itself. What have we here? A clean, golden to amber pour with a greenish cast to it. Aroma starts with a very clear and distinctive hint of pineapple that I loved and led me to pair this with the very fresh raw fruit a few day later to great heights of joy. There's also a trace of umeboshi plum and citrus rind. Add a little water and the charred oak will be displayed: caramel, charcoal, undergrowth, etc. I must say this one goes well with a drop of some subtly sparkling water, but that's just an aside.A rare brown Spode decanter from Chivas Brothers Ltd, This Royal Salute flagon of 21 years old blended whisky has been specially created to celebrate the Coronation of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This rich and complex scotch blended whisky from Chivas is aged for 21 years in oak casks before bottling in handcrafted porcelain flagons.

Chivas Royal Salute 21 yo Whisky - Whisky of the Week

At her coronation, the crown of Queen Elizabeth II was set in rubies, sapphires and emeralds. These precious stones remain the inspiration for the colours of Royal Salute's handcrafted flagons, therefore bottle colour may vary.In 1953, Chivas Brothers paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by setting out to create the ultimate blended Scotch whisky. The first flagons adorned with the royal crest, were sealed on the day of her coronation. It was to be known as Royal Salute 21 Year Old, after the 21-gun salute of friendship and respect that has been fired to honour dignitaries, sovereigns and nations since medieval times. Taste: The initial taste of sherry, walnuts and oak is strong, but the palate dries and orange peel, cinnamon, honey and cooked apples eventually emerge and cut through a thin veil of wood smoke and char, as an oily film coats the tongue.

Perhaps you are looking a bigger bottle, or a miniature or a sample. No more worries! Here they are. One of the best Chivas whiskies I have ever tried. If you like this you should consider the overpriced Johnnie Walker Blue Label. Výjimečná směs velice vzácných whisky vyzrávajících minimálně 21 let, která se vyrábí v palírně Strathisla - nejstarší fungující palírně Skotské Vysočiny. Costco Online UK Limited, UK Home Office, Hartspring Lane, Watford, Hertfordshire, WD25 8JS. Registered in England and Wales No. 8055444Mouth starts pungent and oily; midpalate develops salty and bitterish notes. Finish is very long, with soft metallic flavors coming hand in hand with a sweet and oily feeling. Boy, do I like it. It's a real treat (should I say "royal treat"?) and, to round things up, it isn't super-pricey (not cheap, though.) As mentioned before, I've also had the chance to drink and review the way more expensive elder brother (38 y.o.) but this is the one I'd root for. Royal Salute is 21 year old blended Scotch whisky first created in 1953 to pay tribute to the British monarchy, with the first bottles launched at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (which took place at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 when Elizabeth II was in her mid twenties). Fittingly, the whisky takes its name from the “21 gun salute” which is a customary British gun salute. Finish: The nut oils dry up as the oak becomes grippy, and the taste of tea leaves and spices fade gently together with dwindling citrus peel marmalade and dates in what is a slow, long-lived and classy finale.
