About this deal

Codenames is small enough that you could easily travel with it. If the box is too big, just grab the components and you'll be ready to go. Correct answers will reveal the word cards as being agents, whilst incorrect answers can either result in the discovery of an innocent bystander - which simply forces the current group to stop guessing using their clue - or an assassin, causing the game to immediately end and all the players to lose. Should players successfully guess all their agent cards then they win the game. This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. The specific problem is: c/e is needed. Please help improve this article if you can. ( July 2022) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) Yeah, this happens. You lost. That's what the assassins are paid for. You can just flip all the word cards over (or deal a new set), draw a new key card, and try again. Codenames Duet is a very interesting translation of a party game. However, I feel it loses the essence of the original Codenames. There is a joy to be had in watching your team debate among themselves until they come to an agreement on which word to guess, sometimes leading each other on the most bizarre tangents. That simply can’t be recreated in a two-player game.

rules overview video - Czech Games Edition

Codenames starts with a five-by-five grid of cards, each card is printed with a single word. Players of four or more divide into two teams, the red team and the blue team. One member from each team per round is designated as the clue giver or, as the rule book calls it, “spymaster.”

A word that is covered by a green agent card does not need to be guessed anymore. In particular, if you guess a word that looks green from both sides of the card, your partner will cover it, and neither of you will give clues for it anymore. (If this happens, do not tell your partner that you were also giving clues for that word). Your clue must be about the meaning of the words. You can't use your clue to talk about the letters in a word or its position on the table. Permalink If we don't finish the game in one session, how long will the room last? The rooms are automatically deleted after 7days, to keep space on the servers. Permalink Can I have more than one spymaster/operative on one team? Yes – same as in the original board game, you can have more than one operative on your team, as well as more than one spymaster. Permalink Can someone join a game in progress? Yes, people may freely join or leave during the game. They may even switch teams, or become spymasters if your original one leaves or needs a help. We are trying to reflect the options you would have around a real game table. Permalink How many languages do you support? In Codenames Online, we have word cards in about 40languages. The user interface is currently available in about a dozen different languages, but we are working on adding more. Permalink I don't see my language when creating a room. Codenames: Disney Family Edition was released in September 2017, featuring characters and locations from Disney and Pixar films and including an easier 4x4 grid gameplay (with no 'Game Over' square) for younger players. Codenames: Marvel Edition was released around the same time, featuring characters from the Marvel Universe, such as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Iron Man and Captain America. [3] Both of these editions come with their own clue cards, which can be flipped over to display the picture or the word.

Codenames Duet Review | Board Games | Zatu Games UK

You are allowed to give a clue for only one word (cashew: 1 ) but it's fun to try for two or more. Getting four words with one clue is a big accomplishment. One Word Codenames Duet does a great job of replicating the gameplay of the original for two players and is a far superior option to the two-player mode in the original. However, it can be a bit more stilted in terms of flow. As both players are taking turns giving clues and guessing them, there is no downtime for the clue giver to think. This, in turn, seems to result in longer pauses, as the clue giver desperately tries to link their words together and avoid the three assassins.

Guesses should be made one at a time and marked in the usual way. For example, when your partner touches a word, your side of the key card determines whether the guess is correct or not.
