About this deal

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He’s handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

In the climax of the story, Rika confronts Michael and the other Horsemen. She reveals the truth about the night of the prank and forcing them to face the consequences of their actions. Michael and Rika finally admit their feelings for each other, but they must overcome their dark pasts and confront their demons to find redemption. For years, Erika bit her nails, unable to look away. Now, she’s in college, but she hasn’t stopped watching him. He’s bad and the things she’s seen aren’t content to stay in her head anymore. Standing up straight, I squared my shoulders and let the fear sit. I didn’t push it away or try to bury it. Dreams might be a heart’s desire, but nightmares are its obsession in the first novel of a dark romance series from New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas.

And let’s not forget the time when the Four Horsemen tell Rika about the girl who was drugged and raped in an old church basement where everyone hangs out at to party. They didn’t catch all the guys who had a go at her. There’s still at least four running around, Michael makes a point to tell her. Good times.

The two characters are fantastic. For instance, there is Fallon, a loner seeking retribution for all the wrong things that were committed against her. She is tough and a tender-hearted young woman who gave her love as well as body to a man who has managed to remain deeply ingrained in both her heart and soul. Imagine how heartbreaking it could be finding out that the person whom you cared and loved the most could deceive and break your heart into a million pieces? This is what Fallon feels and the main reason why she seeks revenge. However, the question is, was all that she was meant to believing true or just mere fabrications? One night, a year before the main events of the story, Rika gets involved in a dangerous prank when she is invited to a party at Michael Crist’s house. She is unaware that the Horsemen have planned an elaborate and dangerous prank that involves breaking into a rival school’s gym and sabotaging it. The prank spirals out of control when the Horsemen encounter a homeless man living in the gym. The situation escalates, resulting in the man’s accidental death. Rika, horrified by the events, attempts to call for help, but the Horsemen prevent her from doing so. My brother's girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven't had her body, I know that I have her mind. That's all I really want anyway. In addition, the book delves into the motivations behind corruption, from greed and power to ideological disagreements. Penelope Douglass Corrupt Book presents a thoughtful analysis of the various strategies used to combat corruption, from legal systems and public education to international organizations and grassroots movements. The book is also full of suspenseful moments, such as when Jax is threatened by a gang of members and is forced to flee. Jax’s criminal activities bring a source of conflict, putting him into a life-threatening situation. You’re not breathing, are you?” he taunted. “Oh, you’re so sweet when you’re scared. Just as sweet as I remember.” Erika Fane’s boyfriend’s older brother is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than he is with her. But she saw him. She heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid… So, what is Corrupt about? Please know that there will be spoilers galore in this review so if you really think you want to read this book – and I implore you not to waste your time as I will provide, at the end of this review, a list of MUCH better books to read – you have been warned. Neither Penelope Douglas’ Corrupt nor its characters are the typical heroes and villains of your average novel. Instead, the author uses a variety of literary devices to explore themes of power, justice, and morality. Symbolism is a key tool of the author to represent different ideas, from money as a symbol of power to color as a symbol of the two sides of conflict between the city and its inhabitants. Those moments of good where he’d looked at me or gave into me were what I’d craved so viciously that I hadn’t seen what was in front of me.
