About this deal

Iron Man's armor has been shown to withstand nukes, and Ms. Marvel has similarly undefined, but impressive durability, yet a few regular bombs take them out? Same goes for Rogue and Colossus, who are somehow electrocuted to death. I don’t want to get into too much detail, but I’ll give you an example of how this series is a little different than the original. When I wrote the first series, lots of fans gave me trouble when Wade killed Spider-Man in the second issue. I can’t blame them. It was tragic. And as a peace offering, in the second issue of this series, Wade goes after the entire Spider-Family. Those spider symbols might as well be targets.

If Puppet Master could control freakin' Galactus, you'd think Reed Richards would have tried that by now. Not to mention, Punisher killing Puppter Master should have almost certainly broken the hold the puppets had over the heroes, as Puppet Master has to have some sort of psionic powers to control people effectively with hand-made dolls. It’s true. There is a vast conspiracy at work behind the scenes here. And while we reveal the members of this conspiracy in the first issue, I think figuring out the mystery of what’s going on will be a big part of the fun for readers.Marvel.com: You’ve mentioned that Dalibor is working with a few different styles for this book—what could that mean?

Remember the year 2012? Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 60th year on the throne. Freakish physical specimens from around the world lifted heavy stuff and ran fast in a thing called “the Olympics.” The Mayan Calendar, regrettably, got proven incorrect in its prediction of the apocalypse. Oh yeah—and Deadpool killed the Marvel Universe. Cullen Bunn: Everything about Deadpool’s approach to murdering these heroes is different. Even though we’re revisiting a story about Deadpool killing off your favorite heroes, this is a new tale, and we went to great lengths to make sure we weren’t walking the same path. As you said, the Marvel Universe is quite different than it was when we did the original series. It has evolved and grown. Deadpool’s murderous methodologies have changed, too. We sat down with Cullen to learn more about the return of Wade Wilson and his thirst for super-blood in the brand new series. This July, the newest super hero extinction event begins in DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE AGAIN #1 and #2! Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajić, creators of the original best-selling series, return for an all-new five-issue run alongside the universe’s most dangerous man in red spandex. Marvel.com: How was it partnering with Dalibor once again to create the sequel to one of the most visually epic—and disturbing—series in recent memory?

Cullen Bunn: He’s killing the entire Marvel universe! That means every name is on the kill list! Duh! Emma Frost, Magik, Jubilee, Colossus, Nightcrawler and other X-Men - Killed in various ways, supposedly by Logan (Wolverine) Furthermore, even if he had been crushed under it, it's unlikely it would have hit Thor with enough force to kill him. If it had, the planet probably would have been shattered along with him. Cullen Bunn: Writing DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE was such a blast for me, so of course I wanted to return to that well at some point. I wouldn’t have pursued it, though, unless I thought we had a new kind of story to tell and some interesting and unexpected angles to explore. The tale that we’re presenting here definitely gives us something new and exciting, so it’s time to pull the trigger!

Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again Vol 1 1

Cullen Bunn: With this series, we’re going to be honoring the history of comics and the vastly different styles of comics that have been delighting readers for ages. Of course, we’re honoring these wonderful comics with excessive violence and bloodshed, but that’s what we do. Dalibor has the chance to play with plenty of different styles here, as we explore how Deadpool views the world…and how the world really is. Dalibor kept telling me to challenge him; to “make his eyes bleed”—so I went right along with his request. I don’t think you’ll be seeing Deadpool returning to the Marvel offices in this new series. While that worked in the original book, this new story is something altogether different.

Doctor Doom, Ben Grimm, and Ghost Rider were all killed offscreen. There are also Hulk-like characters like Juggernaut, who have no equivalent to a Bruce Banner form to kill them in. Marvel.com: In your opinion, what made DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE one of the most popular trades in recent years? Everyone has their own reason—but why do you think people loved it so much?

Deadpool Kill the Marvel Universe? Explained Why Did Deadpool Kill the Marvel Universe? Explained

Actually, that’s not entirely true. This time around, Deadpool isn’t just setting out on rampant murder spree without direction. He has specific targets he’s trying to take out. I kept a growing list of everyone Deadpool kills in the series. That helped us keep all the deaths straight. Trust me, the list is very, very long.Broken Base: Is it an awesomely dark take on a popular character, or a collection of mean spirited, upsetting murders of beloved characters? This is the kind of series that splits opinions.
