About this deal

The screenshots used do not represent the 4K UHD because of the resolution and HDR downscaling used to take screenshots. ---- Drive: a 70-minute conversation with Nicolas Winding Refn, Editor Mat Newman and Composer Cliff Martinez They’ve just issued the September 2020 Digital edition of their magazine, which features an extensive look at the recent surge of 4K Ultra HD catalog releases. The publication’s editor, Stephanie Prange (who, full disclosure, I’ve known for many years), wrote a great longform piece for the issue called 4K Ultra HD: Into the Vaults about the process of preparing classic catalog films for release on the format.

Starring: Mark Dacascos , Kadeem Hardison , John Pyper-Ferguson , Brittany Murphy , Tracey Walter , James Shigeta This presentation may come off as revisionism to some, as the vibrancy is really turned up in key sequences, like the climactic neon-dominated battle. To this assessor, I think it aids greatly in achieving Steve Wang’s original vision for the film. Need we forget that the film was taken away from him upon its initial release? I’ve also just spent most of today on the phone with industry sources, gathering information for our big preview of 4K Ultra HD catalog releases that are coming in the second half of 2021. And that’s the crux of today’s post here at The Bits, but more on that in a minute.

I have 4 drives now - two Asus and one LG that are BDXL compatible and then the LG NS60, which is official. I had one of the original NS60 with Firmware 1.00. I don't suppose the latest will work without a firmware patch/downgrade. The Dolby Vision HDR color grading is very good, much better than SDR, but it's still not perfect. There are minor bit-depth errors. This is a source-based error, it's not from the disc's encoding. So, movies from the early 2000s to around 2020 have really been handcuffed by technology. Mostly, digital cameras were used, and early color grading was inadequate. It is what it is, and we're only just coming out of it now, so it's been a struggle. Unfortunately, digital cameras have had poor color depth for some time. High-budget movies in late 2021 have just started to overcome it. But even releases like Dune had bit-depth errors, so we're still not out of this digital handcuff yet. Regardless, I think this movie has been graded about as well as possible for the time. I noticed some increased blues (very minor) and increased brightness. This is stylized in this way; it gives the movie a filmic look and an almost '70s look which I really like. I love the way it looks. I think color fading around faces did show some minor depth errors, and the way light fades on walls looked a pinch-off. Just for reference, I'm using a Panasonic UB9000 and a professionally calibrated 77-inch LGC9 with Dolby Vision. Drive: A Conversation with Nicholas Winding Refn, Editor Mat Newman and Cliff Martinez (Upscaled Zoom – 75:09) Commentary features Steve Wang, Koichi Sakamoto, Mark Dacascos and Kadeem Hardison, and can be accessed under the Setup All UHD Friendly drives have the sleep bug, this is when a UHD disk is left idle in the drive for 2 minutes. Once the drive goes to sleep, the UHD Friendly drive will no longer be able to read the disk without opening and closing the disk tray and will make horrible seeking noises until this is done.

probably improves shadow detail in the many dark or dimly lit scenes, but I have to say maybe not by a huge amount. My score Ruby Quartz Shades. Well, what would you prefer! Yellow spandex? Oh and Logan Stay Away From My Girl. The movie was sourced from a 2KDI. I've personally only seen two movies on 4K that actually look really good coming from a 2K source and that didn't have upscale ringing and other issues. One was Zero Dark Thirty and the other was Eastern Promises from Kino Lorber. That's actually the best 2KDI transfer I've ever seen. This is the 3rd best for sure. There's no upscale ringing, no issues at all really concerning how it was upscaled. Whoever did the upscaling really knows what they're doing, this is how all 2KDI's should look. The only way I could tell it was a 2KDI was by the resolution. It's not as sharp as a 4K. It's as simple as that, but that's how it should be. Second Sight! whatever you're doing here, always upscale like this in the future, please. It's perfectly done.In some cases crossflashing an Asus drive to an LG or the other way around you may no longer be able to burn disks-SamuriHL

Drive 4K Blu-ray delivers stunning video and reference-quality audio in this excellent Blu-ray release Drive! all the way from the UK. This is the first Second Sight Films transfer I've seen, so let's see how many enemies I can make:) I'm a big fan of this movie and absolutely love the style. Let's see how it looks on 4K. Second Sight in the UK has released a stunning new remaster of the classic Drive, starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.

The use of surround sound and Atmos heights is more of a supportive role. However, in one scene where a helicopter goes overhead, it actually sounded as though a helicopter was flying over my house. I think good, it doesn't abuse the use of the height channels just to use them. I think it's tastefully done, and I'm very happy with it. A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong. Criterion’s 4K Ultra HD release also comes with a Blu-ray of the film in 1080p. The following extras are included on the Blu-ray only:still was sourced from an obviously less than stellar element. Unfortunately, the ostensible improvement in video is counterweighted by Dolby Digital Another question - I expect the latest WH16NS60 (if you can even still buy them) ship with some later firmware.
