This will be the second time the Fiesta has gone ahead in its traditional form since the Coronavirus pandemic and the first since Covid to boast shuttle buses taking people to and from Bristol city centre. Last night, the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta teased today's launch event on Facebook. They wrote: "We're setting our alarms super early which can only mean one thing, Bristol... eyes to the skies for a little pre-Fiesta surprise." The first mass ascent of the iconic Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will take place on Thursday 10th August followed by the spectacular Nightglow, the Fiesta has announced. We do not offer any balloon flights during the Festival; however, we do offer free tethered rides for all ages each morning at no additional cost (weather and pilot permitting).Visit Schedule of Events for tethering times and follow us on Facebook for day of balloon activity status. If the wind is blowing in the right direction, hot air balloons will often fly over the River Avon near Clifton Suspension Bridge and pass right over the Downs - sometimes even using them as a landing spot. Friday will begin cloudy and there is a small chance of some showers but it should stay dry, with some sunshine coming through in the afternoon. Temperatures will be a little cooler, reaching 23ºC.Every year the Fiesta has an official charity partner and this year it is the Teenage Cancer Trust. It attracted around 300 hot air balloon enthusiasts from around the country as well as abroad including New Zealand.
While it was a very early start, people still got up to Lloyds Amphitheatre to watch the hot air balloons being inflated. While you're not guaranteed to see balloons from the harbourside, if the wind is blowing in the right direction balloons often travel over the very centre of Bristol. The estate, which is on the outskirts of Bristol, is the home of the fiesta with the mass ascents taking off from there each morning and night. Hot air balloons were inflated in the city centre this morning (July 20) as part of the launch of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2023. The festival takes place from August 10 to 13 and ahead of it, organisers brought some of the balloons to the city.
