I loved the new people she introduced us to in this book. Cooper has a twin, Evan, who I want a book for. I also loved all of Cooper’s friends (minus Heidi, but I got her in the end). Mac had a fun roommate, but her parents and Preston were awful. I loved to hate Preston. All of these characters have me wanting more books set in Avalon Bay! I stride over, knowing I pose a menacing picture. I’m six two, haven’t shaved in days, and my hair could use a trim. Hopefully I look menacing enough to deter these bros from doing something stupid. I’m glad to know the cheating wasn’t such a huge thing. Like you, I’m not a fan of them and always steer clear from that trope. But I was curious to read it, since I love Elle Kennedy! Overcome the nice girl syndrome and free yourself from the psychological and social pressure to be someone you are most likely not.

The positive of the New Adult format (for those who enjoy it): it’s emotional and angsty, filled with unlikely couples with a lot of sexual tension, a fair amount of conflict, and a bunch of make-up sex. I just finished this today and I was a little disappointed in the ending. It was dragged out until the very end, and I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak, but I got to the point where I felt like maybe there would be some other less obvious resolution to the central conflict. So I was disappointed to find that it was very rote at the end. I was so excited to read this book. It was one of my most anticipated books of the early part of the year. (I usually enjoy your books; something about your writing style just works for me.)
Kindness is a quality that should be present in everyone, regardless of gender. But how can you tell whether your niceness is still in the healthy realm or if it’s started to become harmful? I enjoyed the snap and sizzle of the chemistry between Mac and Cooper. I liked that the group of friends were not perfect and that one in particular was presented with more nuance than initially appeared would be the case. I was super excited to get an ARC of this book from Netgalley! To me this is a perfect book to read in the summer (but really anytime lol). Love that it is set in a beachside town. It gives me OC meets Gossip Girl meets Outer Banks (only because that show is set in a Carolina beach town, which this book is as well). Good Girl Complex is about Meg (wealthy, business savvy, but comfortable with her uber wealthy boyfriend) and Cooper (local townie who hasn't had an easy upbringing). Through unsuspecting cirmcumstances and a revenge plot these two end up falling for each other. But the question is, will they be strong enough to survive their differences and obstacles in the way.I expect him to whine, throw a fit. Instead he laughs, shaking his finger at me. To him, this is some of that charming local color they come slumming it down here to find. Rich kids love getting rolled. You end up sacrificing a lot for fear of doing or saying something that might jeopardize your relationship. I love Mac and Cooper’s relationship. Now I think I should read more books with friends to lovers. Like all do Elle Kennedy’s couples, I felt they were very realistic.
