About this deal

For hungry crops such as winter lettuce, pak choi or mizuna greens, a liquid feed can be applied if necessary

Sow baby carrots and lettuce indoors in late summer if space permits to take advantage of the autumn sun and produce late harvests. In heated greenhouses, plant new potatoes for Christmas crops. There are two main options when growing tomatoes in a greenhouse – grow bags or pots. Both have their pros and cons, so it’s often down to your individual preferences, so let’s take a closer look at each method to see what might work best. Grow Bag vs Pots Use a support like bamboo canes to support tomatoes growing in grow bags, and then tie the plant to the cane using twine. If using culture rings you will increase the depth of compost to push the cane into. Use one cane per plant, ideally pushing it through the bag and into the soil beneath. If you’re laying your grow bags over a hard surface such as concrete, you can buy a support frame to hold the bamboo canes in place. Sow your seeds in pots around March time; keep them inside on a sunny windowsill until they are large enough (around 15cm) to plant in your bag and the last frost has passed. Gallon Bags– If you want to plant one or two smaller plants such as pepper plants the 3-gallon bag will be exactly what you need. You may have heard of grow bags, but not know what they are or how best to use (or choose) one. So in this in-depth guide from South West Greenhouses, we're going to give you everything we know about grow bags! Read on. What is a Grow Bag? Once germinated, seedlings will need somewhere light and frost-free to grow on; an unheated greenhouse may not be sufficiently warm until April

Remove from the propagator once seedlings appear, which may take one to two weeks. Continue to keep the young plants warm, in bright light, and water regularly. Despite its durability, the fabric that Vivosun uses for their grow bags is also incredibly breathable. The roots and soil stay more oxygenated and cooler during the summer. Cantaloupe (Muskmelon): Varieties like ‘Halona’ or ‘Sweetheart’ are ideal for greenhouse cultivation. They produce small to medium-sized, sweet, and aromatic melons with orange flesh. These varieties are known for their shorter growing periods, making them suitable for the UK’s climate. You will find many benefits to growing your plants in a grow bag including convenience, low prices, space-saving and ease of use. The grow bag is simply a plastic bag that holds the compost. The compost will not lose water through evaporation and therefore can be used as a soil improver at the end of the growing season. Cordon (or indeterminate) tomatoes grow tall, up to 1.8m (6ft), and require tall supports. They are great for growing in a greenhouse, but will also do well in a sunny spot outdoors, either in the ground or in large pots against a south-facing wall. They are useful when space is limited, as plants grow vertically, tall and narrow, and produce a heavy crop. They require regular maintenance – watering, feeding, tying to supports and pinching out side-shoots.

They are much less space-consuming: If you have a smaller space in which to grow garden bags are the way to go. When considering storage in the off-season remember that grow bags can be stored completely flat, taking up virtually no space at all.

Some shading will be necessary; it is best to add this gradually, as it will initially reduce growth I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend growing any plant in a large enough grow bag. However, plants that do not have deep roots are much easier to grow in a grow bag.
