About this deal

Huawei even keeps the weight of the power adapter down to 159g, and it’s a slimline affair that’s more akin to a phone power plug. Even the top prong of the UK plug slides down to make it easier to stow. You’ll probably want to sling it into your bag, too, as the MateBook D 15 only lasted for 5hrs 50mins in our video-rundown test.

HUAWEI MateBook D 15 is a master of portability, with its slim, contoured 16.9 mm thin design, and weight of just 1.56 kg. But don't let its lightness illustration purposes only. Actual products may be installed with Windows 11 and the silkscreen may vary In the past we’ve been mightily impressed with Huawei’s devices, including the Huawei MateBook 13, the 2018 model of the Huawei MateBook D and the flagship Huawei MateBook X Pro, and with this impressive start, we’re hoping that the company can continue that run of successful laptops with the new and improved MateBook D 15. run HarmonyOS 2 or later, and some Huawei laptops that run PC Manager 12.0.2 or later. If you have anyBased on a dual antenna design, the theoretical Wi-Fi 6 transfer rate is up to 2.4 Gbps, 2.7 times higher than the 867 Mbps of Wi-Fi 5. This is theoretical data only. Actual performance may vary by environment. Only certain Huawei mobile phones and certain Huawei laptops running PC Manager 12.0.2 or later support this function. HUAWEI MateBook D 15 is a master of portability, with its slim, contoured 16.9 mm thin design, and weight of just 1.56 kg. But don't let its lightness fool you — the stylish, smooth-to-the-touch body is strong and sturdy, for a versatile machine you can take just about anywhere. Performance-wise, however, the Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) doesn’t do quite so well. The AMD Ryzen 5 3500U is a decent enough mobile processor for day-to-day tasks, but the Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) will struggle to do anything too strenuous. Gaming is certainly out of the question. FullView Display is a patented and commonly used term for HUAWEI products, referring to screens with a high body-to-screen ratio and reduced bezels.

The Samsung-made 512GB SSD did well in our speed tests, too, returning sequential read and write speeds of 2,787MB/s and 2,412 MB/s respectively. As with the old model, the new D15’s drive is divided into 119GB “C” and 337GB “D” partitions, which seems rather pointless. Power Button at the top right of the keyboard and it will read your fingerprint, to power on and log you depending on the specific product configurations, manufacturing techniques, and measurement methods. Of course, it’s not quite as nicely designed as a MacBook, but it’s certainly one of the best looking mid-range laptops we’ve seen. That’s not too bad, and would last you almost an entire work day, but there are some caveats that leave us slightly less impressed. First, this is looping a video, which isn't the most intensive of workloads. If you’re also going to be surfing the internet, editing photos and writing up text documents, then that battery life is going to deplete a lot faster. Huawei told us to expect 13 hours of office work with a single charge of the MateBook D’s 56WHr battery – something it fell far short of in our tests. In the PCMark 8 and 10 benchmarks, the MateBook D 15 performs about as well as other notebooks with similar hardware. That being said, in our suite of benchmarks, the Huawei notebook only manages to secure a spot in the middle of our comparison chart. Physically speaking, the 2021 D15 is a dead ringer for the 2020 model. I’m not sure if this is a case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” or laziness in Huawei’s design department, so let’s be generous and assume the former. The laptop’s size and weight – 358 x 230 x 17mm and 1.56kg – is extremely portable, and the impressive rigid Space Grey aluminium alloy chassis is equally as lavish. However, it doesn't look like it is available in the US and Australia at the time of writing. We’re following up with Huawei to get a better idea of worldwide availability. However, considering the US government’s complicated relationship with Huawei products, there may be a good chance that the Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) will never be available there. I recommend converting them into a single partition using Windows’ Disk Manager. It’s a simple enough job to do: first, delete the D partition and then extend the Windows C partition into the free space.

The good news is that Huawei’s 2021 MateBook D15 seemingly fits these stringent requirements. It’s a straightforward no-frills laptop with decent dimensions, decent build quality, a decent specification and decent design, and it’s all yours for a decent price. Did I say it’s generally quite decent? Super Device facilitates seamless cross-device collaboration, allowing a vast array of smart devices Using a fingerprint to sign in to Windows 10 is a great feature, and the Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) has the added bonus of including tech that reads your fingerprint when you press the power button. Your fingerprint is securely saved as the Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) boots, and then used to log into Windows, so you don’t need to press it a second time. It’s a little thing, but it’s a nice touch and makes using the Huawei MateBook D 15 (2020) a much smoother experience.

The Low Blue Light certification means that when Eye Comfort mode is enabled, the test item's display effects conform to a set of low-blue-light standards approved by TÜV Rheinland (color temperature adjustment effects are not included in the test). Actual blue light filtering effects may vary according to the wavelengths present. Nonetheless, the HUAWEI MateBook D 15 is not a medical device, and Eye Comfort mode is not intended for treatment purposes. Only certain Huawei mobile phones, tablets, monitors, and certain Huawei laptops running PC Manager 12.0.2 or later support this function. This means that the measured response time is worse than the average of all tested devices (21.8 ms). The Intel AX201 Wi-Fi module supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 and there’s an NFC chip to facilitate Huawei’s handy Share phone-linking system, though sadly it only works with Huawei’s own Android/EMUI 11 devices. That’s a shame, because using it to instantly connect your phone and mirror its display on your Windows desktop is really useful. If Huawei opened this up to all Android phones – assuming that is technically possible – it would surely boost its laptop sales.
