FAA Extra Dark Sea Grey:- To 50 parts of XF24 (dark grey), add 6 parts XF2 (white), and 3 parts XF8 (flat blue). Usage: A water-based, fast dry paint developed for use on plastic model kits but which can also be used on other surfaces. late war - defensive 'greens' 81/82/83, usually over 76, often incombination with some of the greys. Don't get too hung up on the finer points, just build it as you see fit. There's probably very few people who have accurately modelled RFC rigging and lived to tell the tale.

Later USAS machines tended to have 'chrome yellow' wings.Perhaps. But IMO if it's visible at all in 1/72, or without a magnifier in 1/48, it will look daft. The photo of the Halb.D.II is covered with bleached linen fabric. The term canvas applies to fabrics which weigh more than 8 oz./sq.yard. Aircraft fabrics weighed in the range of 3.5 to 4.5 oz./sq.yd. I can remember Ray Rimmel's article in Scale Models, years ago, discussing PC10, also his various WWI model articles. It seems that PC10 could be a dark green or a dark chocolate colour with an infinite number of shades in between. A lot would depend on how strictly the mix instructions were adhered to, but for observers the problem is that it is different colours in different light. I've been to flying evenings at Old Warden when they've had the Pup, Triplane, SE5a etc on display and you'd be pushed to nail the colour down. H74 Matt Linen is much too yellow/creamy and H71 Satin Oak is about right. However, I don't like using Satin colours much and prefer to use H103 Matt Cream as you can see on this HMS Hood:

Can someone tell Me what the item numbers might be for Tamiya and Humbrol RLM 74 and 75 if they even carry those German colors? JohnAh, my mistake, I was thinking of Hu 141 for 02, it was an almost perfect match. I've not been able to get 91 from my LMS for a while and so made the wrong assumption it was no longer made. Matt & Satin: 20-40 minutes touch dry and upto 24 hours for hard dry. Drying times will vary according to ambient temperature and humidity. Recoat: 6 hours minimum (preferably over night). Coverage Honestly? In 1/24 and larger scales I assume. Or is the next trend in modelling to return to the 1950s and engrave burlap weave on all flying surfaces? Tamiya are probably one the most commonly available lines of hobby paints in the US as they are usually carried by R/C hobby shops, and we all know Tamiya is a dominant force in the R/C business. But since I don’t know if the real surface was wood or another material, I don’t really have a choice. These new Acrylic Dropper Bottles enable easier colour blending using the bespoke Humbrol Paint Palette (AG5111). Can anyone suggest any Humbrol or Tamiya colours to approximate doped unbleached and bleached linen for German WWI aeroplanes? I tried humbrol 74 for the unbleached linen but it looks way too yellow? FWIW I building a Fokker Dr.1 and have a Pfalz E.1 in the queue. On the subject of PC.10, this from 'Fighters 1914-19', Kenneth Munson, Blandford 1976, pp. 181-186, an appendix written by By Ian D. Huntley, A. M.R.Ae.S. In late 1990s Humbrol has moved to the much improved Super Enamel range. The Super Enamel paints use the same colour numbers, but have refined formula with very small pigment more suitable for airbrush application. However, with the introduction of Super Enamel some of the old colours losted in this chart have been discontinued.
