About this deal

It's a tribute to decades of commitment, a product designed not merely to please the ears but to captivate the soul. It almost feels like something Sony engineers did for themselves rather than the cold, methodical factory that pumps out thousands of similar products. The bass extends too far into the mids, resulting in a somewhat bloated and boomy bass, and reduced overall clarity. Just ear MH1 will always be the top choice and in a league of its own as nothing will beat the experience of a fully tailored and personalised sound signature. The bass sounds big and full, extension is superb and despite it being boosted, it almost never intrudes the mids at all, maybe a couple of times it did, but it could be my imagination.

Especially, sounds funny i know, Live Music. Throw in any BluRay or Live DVD and nothing will sound as realistic and authentic as the MDR-Z1R. There are some Live Concerts that i did attend myself and the sound is just 100% spot on and everything sounds exactly like im on the scene. Given how many Headphones advertise with how live and realistic and inside the concert hall they sound, its astonishing how many of these fail miserable with actual live music.

Would i recommend the IER-Z1R over something like the Vision Ears EST, UE LIVE, 64 Audio Fourté and similar? Absolutely yes. Its significantly better than these and this is what makes it look cheap but(!), and here comes the caveeat, its still insanely overpriced imho. If the price is no issue for you and you already have an good reference like an IER-M9, Mach 70, TG335 or even SE846, then grab these. There is nothing for a lower price that gives you what it is. Panic! At the Disco’s “High Hopes” is the best example of simbilance from the highs on the Z1R I’ve experienced. The intro opens really well with the instruments, but the vocals are extremely painful and the sibilance is extremely rough to the point where it feels like someone is stabbing me in the ear consistently as Brendon sings. Ahhh! I get none of that from the XTC-C. Everything just comes across really well, strings, vocals, bass, etc. Headphone cable (approx. 1.2 m (47 1 / 4 in) ) / Balanced-connection headphone cable (approx. 1.2 m (47 1 / 4 in) ) If you plug your wired earphones/IEMs directly into your phone or laptop, you are probably not hearing them at their best. This usually happens because the amplifier in your phone or laptop is not capable enough; to drive your earphones/IEMs to their full potential. I've owned the IER-Z1R for a couple years now, since 2021. At the time, I was looking for the step up from the Blessing 2 and these seemed a perfect fit. Not that they were similar in tonality, but past me didn't pay enough attention to notice that before buying. With headphone shops few and far between, and often closed for pandemic restrictions, I bought them blind and eagerly waited.

The IER-Z1R is, like the A8000, an fun earphone for the person who already has everything and wants something unique and special in addition to that. If you are this person and the price is no issue, than get it! If not, wait for a good used A-Rank deal. you can easily get them 50% off, used in like new condition. All products sold on Headphone Zone carry a GST compliant invoice and all products sold include an 18% GST. I'll be following people's impressions of them once they hit the open market even though I'll probably buy something else by then as it looks too uncomfortable. It's the problem I have with the z5 despite liking the z5 a lot. And for the price I am considering ciems from 64 and ee that should have the sound signature I'm looking for while also fitting my ears well. The Ts-200 enabled me to use them for hours without comfort issues and are the tips that seem to make them sound most unmodified (if that makes sense). There are numbers for easy adjustment, making sure left and right is the same and even weight distribution on the head. Crazy as it sounds you would probably like the 1A the best. People that are after a reference tone are going to be happy with the 1A. The IER-Z1R adds so much of the intrinsic qualities of the 1Z when used with the 1A, it’s not funny. I would actually suggest people get the IER-Z1R and 1A combo first, as it is the best value and most middle of the road. About the same, Ether flow / Ether C a feels bit more flexible and seems easier to replace parts if it breaks.
