Although not necessarily positioned as such up to this point in GW’s marketing materials, the Octarius book is very much written as a full campaign expansion to the base Kill Team rules, with new factions, missions, and requisitions. The designs are absolutely bonkers; they’re a thoughtfully crafted blend of highly detailed and hilarious. Seriously, the detail in the sculpts is staggering. They are simply beyond anything I’ve yet seen. These miniatures are, in a word, incredible. Mission actions are specific to the mission you are playing, and will be detailed by that mission’s briefing. Missions can be found here (Open Play mission) and here (Spec Ops Narrative missions). Suffice it to say, with a bit of razzle-dazzle involving captured Genestealers smuggled aboard a Space Hulk, the Tyranids were soon plunging into the heart of Octarius and beginning the all-out war we see today. Unfortunately for… well, practically everybody, the fighting escalated to such apocalyptic proportions that it now threatens a vast area of space, and forces otherwise content to leave the Imperium to their folly find themselves drawn in to avert calamity should the Octarian War spill out into the rest of Ultima Segmentum. They’re made from the same plastic as your figures. That does mean that if you so wish you could paint these up in some way – perhaps to mirror the aesthetic of your Kill Team faction of choice? Phobos Kill Team – the first bespoke Space Marine kill team, but consists of already released models and a pretty bland upgrade sprue. Fun to play, though – our guide is on its way.

Everything that you need to play is already in the Octarius box. Everything else is fairly non-essential, but will appeal to die-hard collectors and players.
