About this deal

The 36 pan set (31997) contains the colours from the 24 pan set, plus : 130 cadmium red, 133 orange, 135 carmine, 137 deep pink, 138 deep purple, 142 light yellow, 156 marne green, 163 Persian blue, 166 menthol violet, 190 gold, 191 rose gold, 195 silver

Despite being around the same price as the Windsor & Newton Cotman travel kit, which I've seen recommended as intermediate to professional grade, I've found that these have a much smoother texture, more pigmentation, and more colors!! The pans are also huge, meaning the paints last much longer. What is Brush Gold? I created BRONZE sculptures using the lost wax method, in college, many years ago. I knew immediately 91 is BRONZE. I even pulled out a small sculpture and showed my room-mate. She agreed. The Bronze Age, you know? Discovery: The “Starry” palette seems to have a different binder, so you can (carefully) use them on top of other colors without too much smudging–much more so than the metallics that come with the sets. As you can see, you can easily achieve flat washes with Kuretake Gansai Tambi. The colours would have that pastel-like feel but overall colours are still quite vibrant. For this particular set, it works well for pen and ink sketches as you can still see the lines show through beneath. Conclusion Need I say more? Probably not. I’m sure I’ve made my point. Kuretake Gansi Tambi watercolors are a favorite! You can ask questions in the comments below if you have any.Overall, I would say Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolour is quite enjoyable to use. They are more opaque so you have to be more careful. Understanding your colours and mixtures well is more important with Kuretake, especially if you come from using American and European watercolours. Perfect for painting in the studio or on the go. The unique filtration design maintains a consistent flow of water to the brush tip. Simply fill the barrel with water and the water brush is ready to be used! No more messes with a BrusH2O in hand. Works wonderfully with our Art & Graphic Twin, Clean Color Real Brush, and Gansai Tambi Watercolors. I bought a set of these recently and have found that they are flaking in the pan after use (after they dry out again). Also, if I let them dry in my palette, they just turn into big flakes which makes them impossible to transport. Have you had this issue? I’m wondering if I got a bad batch or something.

Kuretake’s Transparent Watercolor Set is perfect for anyone ranging from a beginner watercolorist to an experienced painter! This compact watercolor set is highly portable and ideal for travel. The translucent shades in this set are perfect for adding color to your illustrations, landscapes, cards, and other paper crafts. My favorite part of getting the largest set Kuretake offer, ( the 36 colors), are those beautiful metallics. They only came in this biggest set which is why I chose to invest in the full set. But, since originally sharing this post, they have released two dedicated pearlescent gansai tambi watercolor sets with even more.I have to build up or remove colors or the paint is rather uniform. Hard to get my beloved hard darker edges. Don't leave big drops of paint/water cos it will dry shiny! I also love that the box has added the English names for the pigments since the last time I bought them!! Kuretake Gansai Japanese Watercolours are traditional, highly pigmented watercolour paints. They are suitable for professional and amateur artists, and are ideal for drawing, illustration, Sumi-e etc. You can but separate colors to replace used ones from EllenHutson or Simon Says I tend to use a lot of colors when I watercolor (saturation) so I needed replacement in 6 months Sandy Lane

If you're experimenting with watercolor for the first time, please don't let the price deter you, student grade supplies, while cheaper, will not give you the same quality of work and will be much more difficult to use and you're very likely to feel the medium is harder than it has to be, and these are not only the best pan set I've used (and I've used a lot) they're also the easiest to use. The hardest part is determining the color names. The list provided by manufacturer is minimal, at best. I spent time comparing my paint samples (on Strathmore 140 lb pad, whiter than Arches) with several watercolor and color books I own.

I just wanted you to know how much I have been enjoying your posts/tutorials. I know these are a labor of love and a response to God’s call. Your encouragement in this community of creativity in God is invaluable to me.
