Letters - Poetry Foundation Selections from Keats’s Letters - Poetry Foundation

Made me ponder and question why I do and feel certain things, and gave me some peace of mind that I'm not the only one that sometimes struggles with day to day life! You mention 'horrid people' and ask me whether it depend upon them whether I see you again. Do understand me, my love, in this. I have so much of you in my heart that I must turn Mentor when I see a chance of harm befalling you. I would never see any thing but Pleasure in your eyes, love on your lips, and Happiness in your steps. I would wish to see you among those amusements suitable to your inclinations and spirits; so that our loves might be a delight in the midst of Pleasures agreeable enough, rather than a resource from vexations and cares. But I doubt much, in case of the worst, whether I shall be philosopher enough to follow my own Lessons: if I saw my resolution give you a pain I could not.But no—I must live upon hope and Chance. In case of the worst that can happen, I shall still love you—but what hatred shall I have for another! Not what I thought it would be. I thought it would be some hilarious letters that she and others had written. However it was just an autobiography/ Cherrys opinions. I am so glad that this book exists. We need more honest accounts of women by women exploring and speaking candidly about what women experience and go through, even if it is subjective. The more subjective accounts we have the more we’ll be encouraged to look at stories and each other objectively. I’m fastidious about it now. I know what to look out for. If I’ve been for a wee and it’s a bit shorter than normal that’s usually the first sign. I’ll then get this strange ache in my pelvic area which grows and grows if you don’t do anything about it, until next time you go to the loo you’ll get the trademark sting when you wee.”

The title of the book is there to grab attention. What the book actually does is to describe her life using various body parts as a starting point. I doubt this is an unique way of telling a story but it is effective in this case. I have been reading lately an oriental tale of a very beautiful color. It is of a city of melancholy men, all made so by this circumstance. Through a series of adventures each one of them by turns reach some gardens of Paradise where they meet with a most enchanting Lady; and just as they are going to embrace her, she bids them shut their eyes they shut them and on opening their eyes again find themselves descending to the earth in a magic basket. The remembrance of this Lady and their delights lost beyond all recovery render them melancholy ever after. How I applied this to you, my dear; how I palpitated at it; how the certainty that you were in the same world with myself, and though as beautiful, not so talismanic as that Lady; how I could not bear you should be so you must believe because I swear it by yourself. She’s a mother, a Diet Coke lover, a TV presenter and the kind of woman whose endearingly grotty sense of humour and coat hanger smile can turn a room of strangers into a fan girl orgy. Cherry Healey, whose book Letters to my Fanny ditches the Disney princess blather in favour of a more honest approach to being, well, a woman is definitely no pussy In this book, Cherry reveals the things she wishes her mother had told her, through a series of hilarious anecdotes and excruciating confessions. Oh gawd I really like Cherry Healey, and I LOVED the premise of this book but it wasn't quite as interesting or exciting as I'd expected. Maybe at 37, I'm not the target audience, maybe it'd be better if it was aimed at a YA audience. Most things she talked about I'd been through, but not in the "oh I'm glad I'm not alone" sense. More like "oh right, I think I'll skip to the next bit". Nothing makes me more excited for a day of designing at work than knowing that cherry is going to entertain me with these funny, inspiring and real podcasts. Its so refreshing to hear such open and honest conversations and to hear inspiring womens stories! Please dont stop :) We will be doing lots of of these, possible as it's own Hotbed podcast, as this is a huge subject. We want to find some real answers people. Why did you decide to write ‘Letters to my Fanny’? I wanted to write about being a woman – a real woman – not like the ones in the Disney films or magazines, but one that eats and jumps and isn’t graceful and likes nachos and sex.

Tomorrow I shall, if my health continues to improve during the night, take a look fa[r]ther About the country, and spy at the parties about here who come hunting after the picturesque like beagles. It is astonishing how they raven down scenery like children do sweetmeats. The wondrous Chine here as a very great Lion: I wish I had as many guineas as there have been spy-glasses in it. This wonderfully warm, funny and candid book is a collection of hopeful dispatches from the frontline of girlhood - an impassioned plea to stop piling pressure on girls and young women and allow them to get on with their lives without having to mind the thigh gap . . .I'll start with the negatives: this book is not a series of letters to the author's fanny, or anybody's. It's been called that because it's commercial, which is cynical. Each chapter starts with Cherry's short letter to a body part - in one case only, her fanny - which is then followed by her experiences and opinions. And don't expect anything outside the UK - this really is Cherry's experience and opinions, so don't expect to learn anything asbout women's bodies in other countries or even in other eras. It's a snapshot, and contains research only in the media sense ("I talked to these people, so now I think this"). Add to this Cherry's women's magazine style of writing (she actually uses words like 'cray-cray'), and it's a bit wearing over a full volume. But then, who is actually going to read all of it, as I did? Don't read her suggested feminist reading list. It'll make you weep with despair. Princess of Wales, and an image of a letter to her brother Frank in the form of a poem, congratulating him on the birth of a son, and looking forward to the Austen women's move to Chawton -- these last You say you are afraid I shall think you do not love me—in saying this you make me ache the more to be near you. I am at the diligent use of my faculties here, I do not pass a day without sprawling some blank verse or tagging some rhymes; and here I must confess, that, (since I am on that subject,) I love you the more in that I believe you have liked me for my own sake and for nothing else. I have met with women whom I really think would like to be married to a Poem and to be given away by a Novel. I have seen your Comet, and only wish it was a sign that poor Rice would get well whose illness makes him rather a melancholy companion: and the more so as so to conquer his feelings and hide them from me, with a forc'd Pun. Women are more susceptible to UTIs as they have a shorter urethra than men. This means bacteria are more likely to reach the bladder or kidneys and cause an infection. In a letter to Fanny, penned in October of 1819 and found in his altogether magnificent Selected Letters ( public library), Keats channels this commonest of human passions with uncommon potency and elegance of sentiment:I really would rate this a 4.5/5, and I do recommend it to anyone who wants to understand and start loving themselves and to just learn that you are not alone with your thoughts and emotions, as everyone goes through this. If you want to start getting into self-love books, and just feminist loving books in general, I really would recommend this as a beginners book. I hadn't read many full on feminist books before, I only tried to read fantasy books hoping they had a badass feminist storyline towards it, but naturally, most of them have the typical storyline trope which isn't exactly what I have in mind.
