About this deal

The hands come in various shapes. The minute hand has an arrow tip. Meanwhile, the hour hand has a square shape to it with a pointy tip. The second hand comes with a sharp tip and a luminous dot at the end. Despite this being an automatic movement, the Miyota 8200 comes with a hand-winding feature. Not all affordable dive watches have this. Particularly, you won’t get this feature from a Seiko watch like the SKX007. 4. The Strap So what is the water resistance rating of the Citizen NY0040? For anyone skim reading through you may not have found this out just yet. This Citizen NY0040 has an impressive diver’s 200m water resistance rating which makes it a proper ISO certified diving watch. The strap of the NY0040 comes with the words “N.D limits” written on it. This means it has “No Decompression Limits”. To explain, this refers to the maximum amount of time that the watch can spend at certain depths before absorbing too much nitrogen before returning to the surface. As indicated by the strap, it doesn’t have that. So, it can stay at a certain depth at any given time. My Fugu gets equal wrist time on a NATO strap and an aftermarket bracelet (I don’t particularly like rubber straps). The case shape and slightly smaller height of 12.5mm make this one of the best NATO-wearing watches I’ve owned.

My Citizen Promaster NY0040: The Only Diving Diver I Own (2021)

Thanks so much for calling your watch a ‘beater’. My EDW is a Marathon SAR, 36mm for my skinny wrist. The crown is no issue to me whatsoever because I wear it on the left wrist so it shouldn’t hit anything that easily. For a brand that makes quartz watches, Citizen stands out for its mechanical timepieces as well. That’s why you’ll surely get your money’s worth with this watch. It offers exceptional value for an automatic watch at its price point. Let’s find out why it’s one of the most reliable yet affordable sport watches you can get. Chronoswiss produced more than one lume-inspired model in the early 2000s. Lex’ CH6233LU is a 44mm manual winding beast that pops off the wrist. Chronoswiss also produced a 40mm automatic version and a 40mm chronograph that is also stunning. If you are looking for something a bit more modest, those could be an option. But the overall proportions of the 44mm version look better.st-rider wrote:Further proof (as if it was needed) you shouldn't believe everything from the interwebnet thingy The outer edge of the dial consists of an angled chapter ring. This is a great way to give the watch dimensions. A lot of watches tend to look flat and two-dimensional, so it’s a smart choice to include an angular chapter ring instead. On this chapter ring, you can find the seconds markers. Date Window & Inscriptions Let there be light! Lume is often referred to because of its functional properties. But there is something magical about it. Not too long ago, I was researching the best Heuer/TAG Heuer watches from the 1980s. During that quest, I was reminded of the brilliance of the brand’s full lume dial diving watches from the 1980s. On top of that, our Fratello master of lume Lex wears his Chronoswiss Timemaster with a full lume dial regularly. It triggered me to find out more about the brilliance of lume dials and put the spotlight on some of the best lume watches. Fiat lux! The decompression table is worn out, and until a Seiko AD squeezed the gasket last year it was working just fine. Probably still does.

Citizen NY008-11E ‘Fugu’ Dive Watch Review Citizen NY008-11E ‘Fugu’ Dive Watch Review

This Citizen Divers watch actually has a great history to it, earlier models were used by Military and Police units, most notably being the Italian Marina Millitare‘s go-to watch! And were actually issued to them. They looked very similar but had Marina Militare on the dial and were good for 500m rather than this ones 200m. I like a bit of history, especially some Military history. It also has a neat ND Limits strap on it.

Whether you are looking to dip your toe into the world of mechanical watches and are looking for a solid starting point, or you are in the market for a quality beater, the Citizen Promaster NY0040 definitely holds its own. Despite having flown under the radar for a long time, I think it’s a watch that deserves more recognition and consideration. With a retail price of around €190, it’s a true value proposition. With a military past for added credibility, these Citizens are a perfect care-free companion for any situation you might find yourself in. There you have it, a list of some of the most spectacular lume watches around. If you want to know more about the workings of lume, go ahead and read Rob’s in-depth article about which watches glow in the dark best. It’s an interesting read that shines a light on the different producers and materials used to light up a dial. After reading that, please let us know what some of your favorite lume watches are in the comment section. Did we miss out on some of the great lume monsters? Let us know! They’ve gone for both a brushed and polished finish which is something I’ve always been quite a fan of. The top of the casing is finished in a brushed style, however, the sides of the casing have a polished shiny finish. I tend to find this sort of design gives a watch a high-quality look. Powering the NY0040 is a Citizen in house movement, the Miyota 8200. This is a 21 jewel movement with a 21,600 BPH which many find to be more accurate than the Seiko SKX007, although this can cause quite the debate.

Sun’s out guns out! Yes, it’s June and that means that people are giving serious thought to where they will spend their vacation. For most, this entails some sort of beach setting and may include activities in the water such as swimming, diving, sailing or surfing. If not, though, the vacation usually involves some sort of travel and often to a foreign land. This is where, if you like watch forums, things get entertaining. To get things started we’re going to be taking a look at the general design of the dial. As is common practice for diving watches, the Citizen NY0040 has a high visibility design making it easy to read at a glance and in dim conditions. If you are a Fratello regular reader, you knew this had to be on the list. The A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Lumen made it to the finals of our March Mania contest earlier in the year. It shows how much you all like this beauty of a watch. In the finals, it was up against ‘my’ Czapek Antarctique Terre de Adélie, where the Czapek took the grand prize. But that does not take anything away from the spectacular Datograph Lumen. This is one of my favorite watches currently out there from a brand that is considered industry royalty. Let’s get this out of the way; both the Seiko SKX007 and Citizen NY0040 are good looking watches on the wrist. They are weighty and feel extremely solid. Both have presence but are extremely comfortable due to their median size. Speaking of size, while both are similar on paper, they certainly wear differently. Those Marathon SARs are brilliant. Plus, you have to give them props for offering such a great range of sizes. I haven’t had the pleasure of trying one, but I have a couple of saved searches set out just in case one day the right one comes around.Movement: Citizen in-house Miyota Calibre 8200, self-winding movement with a manual-winding function Man, those titanium EcoDrives are brilliant. I’d say that if you’re a Citizen fan already you won’t regret going with an automatic NY-series diver. I’ll be honest, I got mine three years ago now, and I’ve never had any issues with timekeeping, which is quite impressive considering that I have no idea when it was last serviced. Throw in the mix that I’ve done just about everything and anything with this watch and it makes an impressive thing even more so! The iconic 1982 Citizen Professional Diver 1300m. To deal with saturation diving, Citizen opted for an ultra-hermetic, rust-resistant titanium case. Both of these watches are purposeful-looking dive watches that seem prepared to take a beating. They both have solid lugs, crown guards and bulky bezels. Dial-wise, though, they take different paths.
