In the early 2000s, Cline got a film script made, but the movie – Fanboys, about a bunch of kids trying to access Skywalker Ranch to see an early cut of The Phantom Menace – was disjointed and awkward. “It took years for the movie to get made, and my screenplay got heavily altered,” he says, recalling battles with producers about changing the plot and characters. “It was all very dispiriting. But it prompted me to finish the novel, because I wanted to see what would happen when I had total control over the end product, as opposed to movies where you have almost no control over anything.” Cline worked with co-screenwriter Zak Penn and with Spielberg to create a modified set of trials for the film, including a new opener: an astonishingly vivid, high-speed car race through a virtual city. The second trial still involves Wade visiting an Oasis-based reproduction of a classic movie, but it’s not WarGames. Instead, he has to navigate through a terrifying virtual version of The Shining’s Overlook hotel, complete with spooky twins and an elevator full of blood. “WarGames didn’t seem quite right because, although it’s a great film, it’s not that visually arresting. We wanted a movie with a unique and familiar environment,” says Cline. “We made a list of possibilities, and when Steven saw The Shining [on it] he lit up. Ready Player One is a 2011 science fiction novel, and the debut novel of American author Ernest Cline. The story, set in a dystopia in 2045, follows protagonist Wade Watts on his search for an Easter egg in a worldwide virtual reality game, the discovery of which would lead him to inherit the game creator's fortune. Cline sold the rights to publish the novel in June 2010, in a bidding war to the Crown Publishing Group (a division of Random House). [1] The book was published on August 16, 2011. Wade is not looking forward to graduating; he doesn’t have enough money to attend college, so his only option is to become a full-time gunter. In sixth grade he transferred to an OASIS school on the planet Ludus, where all OASIS schools are located.Wade recalls the moment when he heard about the death of James Halliday, the creator of a multiplayer game named the OASIS. The ordinary TV broadcast was interrupted with a short film entitled Anorak’s Invitation, in which Halliday recites the “highlights” of his will. He transforms into Anorak, his OASIS avatar, and announces that he’s hidden an Easter egg in OASIS. The first person to find it will inherit his entire fortune and estate. He recites the first clue about the Easter egg’s location, and wonders aloud if he’s made the hunt too difficult. He announces the beginning of the hunt, and the video ends. Wade must play another vintage video game, Tempest, while the “whole world” watches. He eventually achieves the highest score and is instantly transported into the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which he reenacts with joyful ease. Wade then appears in a simulation of Halliday’s office, and realizes that the Easter egg must be hidden in this room. After several tries, he manages to log onto Halliday’s computer and retrieves the egg. Halliday appears and tells him that he is now in charge of OASIS, that his avatar is immortal, and that he can have anything he wants. Wade kills the remaining Sixers and resurrects Art3mis, Aech, and Shoto’s avatars. IOI-655321: The head of operations at Innovative Online Industries (IOI), the multinational corporation that serves as an Internet service provider for most of the world. Cline said that he named Sorrento after Nolan Bushnell, founder of the video game company Atari and said "Not that I think Nolan is a bad guy or anything. It’s meant as a subtle tribute!" [14] They're not eggs in your typical sense of the word. He's looking for Easter Eggs within the programming. (Again... Not those types of Easter eggs.) It was left inside the virtual world by OASIS's creator and whoever finds it inherits a massive fortune.
Just like anything that's awesome... People are going to sit down and give you an opinion. In Ready Player One's case... It's all about how the movie differs from the book. Some flirting and speculation of what the real bodies of the players might look like. In one chapter, there's mention of blow-up sex dolls, online brothels, and masturbation. Ready Player One is the best sci-fi book i've ever read, all the memorabilia really send me to the world you've made.
