About this deal

Distortion is well controlled, and if you work in JPG format you won't notice a vignette at /1.4 and f/2. But there is a dark cast at the edges in uncorrected Raw images—you might like the effect for portraits, and if you don't, it's easy enough to ameliorate in Lightroom or Capture One. For F1.4 Fans on a Budget The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art is the smallest and 2nd in term of weight after the Samyang, 10% smaller than the Sony FE85mm F1.4 GM and 25% lighter The manual focusing ring on this lens is peculiarly tight, needing quite a bit of force to move. This can make applying fine adjustments a pain, especially if you're in a hurry. Closest focus is one metre, which is fine for most portraits, but can be a little limiting for general use. The lens takes 72mm filters and as focusing is performed internally, the lens doesn't extend and the filter thread doesn't rotate, which makes this lens ideal for use with polarising and graduated filters. La résistance au flare est juste bonne , on peut en avoir facilement du flare en pointant l’objectif vers le soleil There is no hyperfocal distance scale, or hard infinity stop, which is unusual for a lens like this, which uses no low dispersion glass in its optical design.

Très bon résultats en vidéo avec un très bon piqué , un très beau bokeh et flou d’arrière plan et un très bon rendu des couleurs Globally the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art wins hands down and cost only 300 euros more than the new Samyang (800 euros)Focusing is usefully internal and manual focusing is possible when the MF mode is set on the Sony camera body. Full-time manual focus override is also available if you choose the DMF focusing mode instead. There's no distance and/or depth of field scale available on this lens. Samyang AF lenses: More recently, Samyang has brought autofocus prime lenses to the market. Most of these are designed for Sony mirrorless cameras, in full-frame FE-mount. There are currently nine in total, ranging from the AF 14mm f/2.8 FE to the AF 85mm f/1.4 FE, both of which are also available in Canon RF-mount editions. Samyang has additionally created 14mm and 85mm autofocus lenses in Canon EF and Nikon F mount options, but with a different design to the mirrorless lenses.

Vignette becomes very mild by F2 and essentially gone by F2.8. This is actually quite a good performance for a wide aperture 85mm lens. Lenses like the Zeiss Otus or Milvus 85mm lenses show very heavy vignette at wide apertures. The lens has a bit soft corner wide open and you better close to F5.6 for best results. In the centre it is very good but you gain a lot by closing by 2 stops The new Samyang has a fast , quiet and precise AF in most cases but it still has occasional issues with eye AF and in burst mode for difficult subjects (see dedicated chapter). The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art has the best autofocus of the 85 F1.4 , very similar to the Sony FE85mm F1.8 Falloff of illumination towards the corners is typical of a fast aperture lens like this. The corners are 2.28 stops darker than the image centre at f/1.4 and visually uniform illumination is achieved by f/5.6. Weighing in at 568 grams and measuring 9.99cm in length, the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 FE is a fairly big lens given its focal length, although it's actually about the same size as the Samyang AF 50mm f/1.4 FE optic that we've previously reviewed.E Mount AF Auto Focus Weather Sealing Ultra Multi Coating Linear Super sonic Motor Beautiful Bokeh 9 Aperture Blades HR Lens ED F1.4 The best standpoint from which to appreciate the full view of a subject is the distance of the diagonal length of the subject frame. This wider angle is superior to standing closer at a 50 degree angle to get a more detailed view. Fujifilm cameras are engineered to control the aperture according to the minimum exposure value(F-stop), so when the camera controls the aperture, it blinks momentarily to set the proper exposure. This design corrects chromatic aberrations, and creates quality results, with peripheral softness also being well-controlled.
