If you haven’t seen the movie yet, I highly recommend watching the movie before reading the screenplay. This story relies on a lot of visual elements and the descriptions in the screenplay don’t do the movie justice.
In 2018, the sequel The Crimes of Grindelwald took everything in a decidedly darker direction. Following his capture at the end of the first movie, warmongering wizard Gellert Grindelwald endeavoured to rally more followers to his 'pure blood' cause. Why the F did I waste my time with this? I couldn't care less about this so called secret especially since the focus has been taken away from the fantastic beasts that made the first screenplay so fantastic. The series should have ended after #1 with Jacob, Queenie, Newt and Tina living happily ever after and leaving Dumbledore and Grindelwald to it. As it turns out, the wizarding world isn't quite finished with "The Monster Book of Monsters." When Dumbledore's OG army sets off to confuse Grindelwald and get the Qilin to the election, all but one group member carries a bewitched suitcase that looks like Newt's. One has a golden snitch (which gives off Dumbledore's "Deathly Hallows" will vibes), another has pastries, and one melts — to name a few. Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald's growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines? Filming was set to begin on 16 March 2020 in London, but was postponed due to growing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. [30] Filming commenced on 20 September 2020. [31] In November, Johnny Depp announced that he agreed to step down from his role of Gellert Grindelwald when asked to by Warner Bros. after he lost a domestic-violence related libel lawsuit in the English court system. Warner Bros. then announced the role would be re-cast and that the film had once again been delayed, this time to summer 2022. [32] A new date of 15 July 2022 announced the following day. [33]A few weeks later, on 25 November 2020, Warner Bros. confirmed that Mads Mikkelsen (who'd been rumoured to have taken the role) would play the role of Grindelwald. [34]
On 1 December, in Tokyo Japan, Warner Bros. hosted a event that may screen or show something from the film. [47] In an interview with Score: The Podcast, James Newton Howard mentioned that "I think it's by far the best one, it's really good. Mads Mikkelsen is playing Grindelwald, he's so great, and it's just great. It's full of magic, and scary stuff, and romantic – it's just really fun." He also said he sent David Yates close to 2 hours of music with a couple notes. [26] The screenplay was released on 19 July 2022. It is the first screenplay in the Fantastic Beasts series to be not released on the same day of the film, being released three months after. In the book, Muriel indicates that Bagshot has "gone gaga", which Elphias Doge agrees with, and thus does not blame her for anything that she might have said to Skeeter. This one is a lot different from the first two. While the first book focused more on the action, flare, and plot of the wizarding world, this one slows all of that down a little bit. Instead, we get to look more at the characters, which is what I think the movies were missing all along. I enjoyed this change in direction. Up until this point, I felt like I didn’t know the characters. I hadn’t had a chance to bond with too many of them. Here, we finally get that. There were a lot of times that it felt kind of slow but I like it. We get to see the Dumbledores together as they try to make sense of the past. Newt and Theseus have a lot of brotherly moments. We see little hints of other bonds being formed. It’s like all of these characters were finally given their moment, their time to allow their talents to come into play. We needed this. What made Harry Potter stand out was the deep bonds that the characters had with one another. We get that here. While it is not as well developed as Harry Potter, we can see it trying to come into play. I only wish that it had happened sooner in the series. Rowling and Steve Kloves.I want to end my review with one of my favorite quotes. This quote sort of feels like a jab at Trump and all his supporters. I don’t know if it was an intentional jab at them, but it still makes me happy.
