About this deal

Plus, there are even three new box sets and even something for retailers! So plenty to sink your teeth into. To find out which Speedpaints reactivate and which do not, I painted all of them on my trusty sheet of plasticard and let them dry for over 24 hours, to make sure that really all of the medium has evaporated. I’m using Spaceship Exterior Warpaint to paint over the left halves, and Corax White over the right halves, which are both very light greys. As you can see, no matter which Speedpaint I’m painting over, the paint reactivates and discolours my acrylic paint. Neither Warpaints or Citadel paints make a difference. This time, there are three new box sets and even something for retailers! So plenty to sink your teeth into.

However, the Mega Set 2.0 will prove valuable to those who can afford it and want to either experiment with their painting experience or just want to get some models bished, bashed and boshed. It’s a shame my rating will have to be marred by the exploding dropper bottles, but had it not been for that, these would have been very easy to recommend. When applying, I noticed that Speedpaints are a bit thinner and runnier than Contrast paints, and the medium pushes the paint into the recesses more aggressively, which helps to create a smoother result even on flat areas. On the other hand, I found Contrast paints slightly easier to control because of their higher viscosity. I felt it was easier to put them on smaller details without accidentally spilling into adjacent areas. As someone who doesn’t paint often or with much variety, I found Speedpaints 2.o to be a very nice change of pace compared what I’m used to using with the Citadel paints. I did have to use a lot of paint on my brush, and we had to make sure to paint over a white base. With a heavy coat over the models, it was very easy to create some really impressive results. The Most Wanted Paint Set includes all the original 24 Speedpaint colours that were found in the Original Speedpaint Mega Paint Set reformulated for superior speed and performance.

In total, the Speedpaint Mega Set 2.0 features 46 colours, 3 metallics, and 1 Speedpaint Medium - a total of 50 bottles - enabling you to paint beautiful tabletop-quality miniatures in no time! Simply apply one rich coat of Speedpaint directly over a primed miniature and you are done. All colours are using tried and true high-quality heavy pigments. And here is the sheet for The Army Painter’s Speedpaints, which I just recently updated to cover all 89 colours of the Speedpaint 2.0 range. Now, these little experiments are all well and good, but what does that mean for practical use? I have to say that unless you paint over with a very light colour, you will hardly notice any reactivation with Speedpaint 2.0. Even then, unlike the old Speedpaints, there is no varnishing needed. One or two additional layers of paint will pretty much remove the bleeding completely. On the Stormcast’s robes I layered and highlighted over Speedpaint that cured for about 20 minutes. As the highlight colours are quite similar, bleeding is not an issue at all. Layering and highlighting over the robes of a Stormcast Eternal painted with Beowolf Blue Speedpaints become even more affordable when you get them from our partner stores Wayland Games, Element Games, Firestorm Games, and Taschengelddieb, which offer additional discounts of 10% over RRP.If you’re plugged into hobby social media at all you’ve surely heard of The Army Painter’s Speedpaint line. They released hot on the heels of Citadel’s industry-shaking Contrast line, promising to provide a similar one-coat experience. We here at Goonhammer have been using them for quite some time, and figured it was high time we shared our thoughts and favorite paints. They often need multiple coats to achieve a similar level of richness. Also, the pigment-based formula doesn’t really work with zenithal shading, as the opaque pigments will gather in the dark recesses and make them brighter, which is not exactly what you want. Maize Yellow is another favorite color of mine. Yellow is notoriously difficult to paint, and Maize Yellow feels like cheating. The Army Painter Speedpaint Mega Set 2.0 provide many great paints and some promising results – and in our experience, these paints did not reactivate, contrary to all the controversy online. The paints provide consistent coverage, an all-in-one shade and basecoat and are very pleasing to the eye, allowing you to churn out some battle ready miniatures in an afternoon without much fuss. So where do I land with Speedpaints? They excel at the things they, well, excel at. They’re fast, they cover well, they go through an airbrush rather nicely, and there’s just about every color under the sun.

Each bottle also has two mixing balls in them, to help separate the paint and is satisfying to hear them clink when you shake them. All the paints are watery, but the metallics are even more so, so make sure to be more liberal than usual to bring out the sheen. Army Painter Speedpaint Mega Set 2.0 Review – Testing

The Army Painter recommend their Matt White Colour Primer, but for better comparison with Contrast, I used Grey Seer Spray from Games Workshop for both models, which is a light grey primer with a satin finish. The smooth satin finish allows the medium of Speedpaints and Contrast paints to spread more evenly. Nevertheless, the many flat areas of the Intercessors’ power armour will present quite a challenge for either paint. Again, the Army Painter Speedpaint range represents each different variation very satisfyingly and gives you a lot of options for, let’s say, orks and goblins, or forest rangers or army men or flora. The Metallic Colours Our revolutionary new Speedpaints Metallics are the easiest way to get metallic effects on your miniatures in one simple application. Speedpaint Metallics are the hobby’s first-ever metallic one-coat painting solution, and this paint set is the fastest way to get your hands on all ten! With colours ranging from rich Talos Bronze, to shimmering Broadsword Silver, and glimmering Hoplite Gold – you have the perfect metallic selection for your hordes of plate mail, carapace, and armour. For this, I rubbed the upper half of the bases with a wet cotton swab to take away the paint from the edges, aiming for an easy highlight effect. As you can see, after 30 minutes, yet despite rubbing hard, I could barely get any paint off the edges of the details. Though a slight discolouration was visible on the cotton swabs. In some areas, I was able to scrape off the paint, but that was more due to the mechanical stress. After 2 hours of curing time, there is even less discolouration going on. Except for a few colours like Tyrion Navy. After 24 hours, reactivation is almost a non-issue, though I can still detect minor discolouration for some of the colours. As you can see, this is a diverse array of shades and variations on every primary colour, though there is one notable omission – white. I found this strange, as though white as a paint can be hard to formulate, it is still one of the most important colours in a painter’s wheel.
