About this deal

When a model’s health pool is exhausted, they’re laid down and effectively taken off the battlefield. They can’t contest objectives, take any more damage, trigger abilities, and so on. The next time they would activate they stand up, clear their damage, and take a full activation before gaining a Wound token. At this point if their Wound tokens equal their Durability stat they’re removed. I sometimes can see the weak places in an opponent—shatterpoints where the unbreakable can be broken. They can occur in individuals…and in events." ― Mace Windu [3]

Assembling the miniatures ranges from “fine” to “appalling”. The kits aren’t complex but some are extremely fiddly. The droid models in particular have miniscule limb joins and small parts. I lost one set of droid antennae as they pinged off the sprue, necessitating a putty and plasticard bodge job. While the mission is abstract – effectively a zone control scenario from your choice of online shooter – the stuff that happens during the game is is dripping in Star Wars theme. All of that’s par for the course for a character-focused skirmish game – distinct rules give each character its flavour and role in your Fireteam. But fate has a big roll to play in Shatterpoint: by nesting some of your abilities inside combat resolution, you’re presented with fresh choices even after you’ve committed to your character’s action for the turn. This means that even in the worst case of Durability 1, all units are guaranteed at least 1 activation before being pulled off the table. All core box models, even the fragile B1s, have a durability of at least 2 which means they have to be taken down a full two times before they’re removed. Shortly prior to the First Battle of Geonosis, Mace Windu perceived Count Dooku to be a shatterpoint capable of ending the war. His attachments let his old friend live, however, and so Dooku was able to go on and initiate the Clone Wars. In only a short span of time, the shatterpoint that made Dooku the heart of the war disappeared. [5] Eventually Mace realized a number of shatterpoints connected with Anakin Skywalker, prior to Anakin's fall. Mace was also able to sense the Shatterpoint of Darth Sidious; his trust in Skywalker. [8] Apart from a very brief “teaser” video showing off some of the new- and very fine looking models- the actual game play mechanics haven’t been shown or discussed yet. What we do know, is that this is going to be a small scale skirmish game similar to Marvel Crisis Protocol but set in the Star Wars Universe and by the looks of some of the models, around the time of the Clone Wars. Timeline wise this is just before and leading into the Phantom Menace and onwards.

The most annoying part of the whole experience, while also being nice for those of us with poor free-hand skills, was painting Bo’s helmet details. The owl eyes and head markings are sculpted into the helmet. I had to do a couple of passes with the blue and the white to get the markings and the helmet as clean as I could. Not knowing what type of brown I wanted for the leather, I left it for last. I ended up using Skrag Brown and highlighting with Flayed One Flesh. Star Wars: Shatterpoint empowers players to alter the fate of the galaxy, from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim. Players build and command a strike team composed of iconic Star Wars characters and pit them against each other in exciting battles! If we cannot deliver the goods within this time we will tell the consumer immediately and agree on another time for delivery. Criticisms? The rules could be clearer in parts – the distinction between ‘Characters’ and ‘Units’ is a little bit head achey, the rules for pushing models near the edges of elevated terrain are written in awful legalese, and I’m still not sure I’m playing ‘priority objectives’ right. I haven’t mentioned the rules for vertical terrain – they’re elegant in play, work perfectly for the theme, but in the rulebook they’re a bit of a pain to read. I’ve been informed by my superiors that I’m once again on thin ice and they seemingly deleted most of my review of the 2003 novel, so I guess I’ll talk about this new minis game instead. What is Shatterpoint? (the actual answer)

during the stream, other characters such as Mace Windu (bahaha, named after his novel and not even in the Core Set!), Padme, and Cad Bane were hinted at
