About this deal

An evolution of an even older model (SP-10), the SL1200 was released in October of 1972. The original SL1200 initially became popular with radio and broadcast DJ’s due to its direct drive motor. Removing the belt drive system gave the turntable brilliant torque, this in turn allow the turntable to get up to speed almost immediately. The new standard model inheriting the technology of the SL-1200G, which was developed as a reference direct-drive turntable for the next generation. The reverse play function, which brings forth new possibilities of creative performance, makes its first appearance in the SL-1200 Series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, a rotation speed of 78 rpm is supported. The earlier MK2 models 1978-1983 or so also have a different construction in the rubber base of the turntable. These turntables were made with a base that was completely rubber, whereas the newer version has 2 separate parts: rubber outside and a bakelite inlay that makes it considerably easier to take apart.

The stylus illuminator features a new push-type structure for intuitive operation, and employs a high-brightness and long-life white LED. The illumination area and intensity were reviewed to provide improved visibility of the stylus tip even in a dark environment. And in 2016, Technics developed the twin-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct drive motor with rotor magnets placed on both sides, thereby eliminating the rotation irregularity of the motor, referred to as "cogging," which was a unique issue for direct drive systems. This motor was adopted for the SL-1200G, which once again drew a significant response in the hi-fi market. The SL-1200GR2 inherits the same design philosophy with the new development of a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct drive motor, resulting in the elimination of cogging. There were a few versions, and they didn't vary much - which is no bad thing. The versions with no zero indent on the pitch faders are probably the best, but give the m5g a miss since it uses a digital pitch control - which is inferior to the technology which accidentally gave us this beautiful mixing machine to begin with. In 1970, Technics commercialized the world's first direct-drive turntable, and the system took the world by storm. Unlike belt-drive and other systems, direct-drive systems rotate the motor at low speed and directly drive the platter, thus providing numerous advantages, such as the almost complete absence of degradation in S/N ratio due to motor vibration and deceleration mechanisms, as well as high reliability over a long period time because of not requiring parts replacement. SL-1200MK6-K& SL-1200MK6-S (released in February 2008 in Japan) with minor improvements including improved tonearm mounting and oxygen-free copper wire, improved vibration damping in the body, improvements to the pitch control accuracy and better LEDs. -S model has a silver finish like the MK2.Development of a completely rebuilt SL-1200 from the ground up with the intent to create a new system for Hi-Fi use and to redefine the direct-drive turntable reference.

When it comes to turntables, one name has always stood out above the rest, so when Technics announced the brand new SL-1210MK7 earlier this year, everyone wondered the same thing - How does it compare to the legendary, 'Club Standard' SL-1210MK2!?The Technics DJ-Bag is available in many fashionable colours and features an extra large Technics logo on the front. This record bag offers enough space for about 60 vinyls or a lot of equipment and promises a great performance at the next event. A practical shoulder strap ensures a comfortable fit. Sadly these are no longer as common as they used to be, and since being discontinued they are not cheap - but buying a good pair represents an investment. My mk3s have doubled in value over the past 5 years! Assuredly you read or have heard about the direct drives: Nerveous, jittery playing always hunting for the right speed (so the preconception). Available from September 2020 globally, the SL-1210MK7R is a limited edition version of the SL-1210MK7 produced in collaboration with the Red Bull BC One international breakdancing competition. The SL-1210MK7R comes in Red Bull livery with red headshell, gold-coloured tone arm and decals. This article needs additional citations for verification. Current MK5 models have a removable lid as opposed to the MK2 and MK3 removable hinged lid. Unlike some earlier 1200' models, The 1200MK5 also has a voltage select switch under the platter, Previously only found on '1210' models. The MK5 is the last 1200 model to retain an analog pitch control. The Reloop RP-8000 MK2 is the obvious choice for DJs who use digital vinyl system (DVS) software such as Serato or Traktor. It’s a clever hybrid turntable which includes controller features designed specifically for software. The GR version of the SL1200 sits above the standard MK7 model in the Technics range. Designed for even higher sound quality than the already excellent MK7. Serious kit for very serious DJs. These were limited edition versions, with 24 karat gold plated metal parts including tonearm and buttons. Many "non-official" special models of the SL-1200 and SL-1210 appeared over the years, mainly given away as prizes for turntablism, most notably the DMC World Championship, who awarded the winner a pair of 24K gold plated Technics turntables. Due to the customisation trend that has grown in the DJ community, many local events or competitions gave away custom coloured or finished units. We recognised that all the bells and whistles necessary for mixing records - such as the pitch control and reset button - were present, but felt duty bound to see how it measured up sonically. However, we concluded that: "when it comes to sound, it's not a match for its test rivals." Available in Japan only, the high cost of import to other markets has made the MK4 a rare model. The SL1200 MK2 was a brand new design that featured excellent isolation, an accurate motor and fantastic sound quality. Technics at the time used the tag line “Tough enough to take a disco beat and accurate enough to keep it”. The whole reason these dominated the vinyl deejaying era was that Technics created them in an era when demand was strong for such a high quality turntable for the professional market. If the price of the item drops before it's released, you will pay the lower price, but if it increases, you'll only pay the price you see today. Notes:The GR version of the SL1200 sits above the standard MK7 model in the Technics range. Designed for even higher sound quality than the already excellent MK7. Serious kit for very serious DJs. Technics will release a new limited edition SL1200MK7SP turntable in very limited numbers for the fall-winter 2023, in collaboration with streetwear brand, Supreme. The core unit is identical to the 1200MK7 but features a white plinth and accessories such as headshell, buttons, power switch, anti-skate, tonearm weight, tonearm height adjuster and pitch slider knob. It sports a metallic Supreme badge on the unit’s body as well as a Supreme logo on the slipmat. Lastly, it features a Technics logo featured in Supreme's iconic red on the dust cover. The SL1210 models also featured a switchable voltage and slightly different wiring. A switch under the platter allows the user to switch between 110-120V and 220-240V. Technics SL1200MK3/D The rotation control, which verifies and corrects the precision of the motor, uses the latest motor control technology cultivated in the development of Blu-ray disc devices, just as that used by the SL-1200G. Sine waves stored in ROM are used for the control waveforms at constant speed, and this achieves smoother and more stable rotation compared with using the simple sine wave generation with an external coil as in the conventional SL-1200MK5. In addition, the electrical circuitry has had tuning performed so that the newly developed motor of the SL-1200GR achieves maximum performance. The starting torque achieves 2.2 kg x cm with only a single rotor. The same startup time of 0.7 s (at 33 1/3 rpm) as the SL-1200G has been achieved.
