The comedy of this book is edgier than Ayoade's normal style since he can outsource the edgy jokes to the character of Gordy LaSure. It becomes clear quite fast that Gordy is a sexist and racist man. This is usually shown not as jokes directly, more in a way of describing how different characters should be treated in the movies.
