Like the drug issue, his estranged relationships with his three children is given the silent treatment, and this would have been fine with me (family is private, and none of my damn business) except Scott-Heron attempts to put a positive spin on his refusal to recognize his son by spinning a very unlikely story that it was all just a misunderstanding. If you don't want to talk about it, Gil, that's fine, but don't ask me to believe the story you tell putting the blame on the mother. Annie, Charlotte& Stella are friends on holiday together with their spouses and children. When Annie turns up dead, a DCI (not really sure what her name is) steps in to investigate. Last Holiday is a 1950 British film featuring Alec Guinness in his sixth starring role. The low key, dark comedy was written and co-produced by J. B. Priestley and directed by Henry Cass, featuring irony and wit often associated with Priestley. Shooting locations included Bedfordshire and Devon. The film was co-written by an uncredited J. Lee Thompson. [2] Bought at City Lights Bookstore (motto: We have no humor section!) as a reward for surviving yet another week on Earth. Filled with intrigue, suspense and drama; exactly what you want from a psychological mystery thriller.

Quasi' because some of the essays/chapters jump by ten years, and often I had no clue what he was talking about as the essay's focus wasn't 'what was I doing in my life' but 'what was happening on the day X happened', for example, 'what was it like touring with Stevie Wonder, the day John Lennon was killed' (that's a whole chapter). That approach turns the book into a pastiche, if you're here to learn more about the man's life, chances are that you won't be helped. For that it's too impressionistic, too much essay, too little chronological I like the concept and I didn't expect the big reveal, but it felt unrealistic. Also, it wasn't as enthralling or thrilling as I had hoped. I would still recommend reading it because it provides a lot of insights about an important American poet and musician, even though you will have to dig for them. I really liked the section about his decision to take a leave of absence after his first year of college to write a novel. It's as good a description of the creative impulse and it effect on personal relationships as you are going to find this side of Lives Of The Great Composers. As the story unfolds so does a tangled web of deciet, insecurities and the ultimate betrayal - you can decide which is which if/when you read it as there is more than oneI just hope she knows when to stop. Because there's something I can't let her bring to the surface... This book is about a group of friends who are camping together with their family. Each of them has secrets and no one really wanted to go on the trip. I liked that the book was from different perspectives. It made it more interesting. I was curious about what really happend. There is a big twist at the end. Some of it I had guessed but not all. I didn;t like the ending. Overall a good book though.

However, it got a bit confusing to tell the characters apart. I think multiple narrators would have made this more enjoyable. Loved this book. Didn’t guess the ending!… Really well written from different POV’s which weave together to tell the story.’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ You read from Charlotte, Annie and Stella. You get to know these characters better and better and these women each have their secrets. There is constant mutual tension and this is getting more and more out of hand. Annie’s always been the keeper of secrets. She knows about the stolen kisses, the infidelities, and all the indiscretions. Now Saturday night on the camping trip, the innocent game we’re playing around the campfire is getting out of hand and I’m worried it isn’t so innocent.

A gripping, can't-put-down psychological thriller… I found myself reading late into the night… I'll definitely be recommending The Last Holiday to anyone who is looking for an exciting thriller, and I'll for sure be reading more books by Amy Sheppard.’ Goodreads reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This man is such an inspiration. I was a fan of his before reading the book, but I never really realized how intelligent and thoughtful and wise and hard-working he was. He accomplished more before turning 22 years old than most people accomplish in a lifetime, and he never stopped working hard to improve himself and the world around him. One of us is responsible for Annie’s death. One of us will stop at nothing to keep our secrets hidden… What you will need is help that exceeds understanding. There may be disruptions on every level by those you try to touch, who shy away from you because understanding is not what you are looking for. Your only hope for stability on the levels of togetherness beyond understanding is trust. Anyone who claims to love you knows that they will not understand every element of these things you need and that is where trust must carry you two the rest of the way. The truth you are seeking to write about, to sing about, to make sense of for others is something that you pursue not because you have seen it but because the Spirits tell you it is there. It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture
