What Fazio and colleagues actually found, is that the biggest influence on whether a statement was judged to be true was... whether it actually was true. The repetition effect couldn’t mask the truth. With or without repetition, people were still more likely to believe the actual facts as opposed to the lies.

Some people are meant to fall in love with each other, but not meant to be together. -500 Days of Summer “ Geppetto (Arche Abbey Upper Part) Geppetto wants to know if he’ll receive any Father of the Year awards. She knows how to capture you, hold you down & refuses to let you go all along the way in the lead up. Suspense and thrill are endless in this novel & will keep you up until late into the night. Making mistakes is something that happens every day to people because we are all human and imperfect. It doesn’t make those mistakes any less painful or more okay, but at least you didn’t intentionally try to hide it and cover it up if you tell the truth at the beginning.

For a woman obsessed and a killer in her shadow, remembering the past becomes a mind game in a novel of psychological suspense by New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton.

Whilst I may not always get every detail of a story correct, I like to think I am generally a good judge of characters, in deducing which are the innocent and guilty parties. That all went out of the window with this mind bender of a plot, which took normal, sane rationale and turned it on its head! What a gruesomely vivid imagination and eye for detail, author Harriet Tyce has been gifted with! For they are the ones holding all the pieces. -Patti Roberts “Thanks to NetGalley & Montlake for an eARC of this book. The following review is my honest reflection on the text provided. How is the new life of Eloïse Redmond, a muggle born that has to live under the torture and violence towards her just because of the blood that run through her veins. A half-truth is a whole lie.” — Yiddish Proverb 27. Don't deny yourself of the opportunities to be great. This was good! I decided to read this book on a bit of a whim. I hadn't heard anything about the book or the author but I am always ready to give a thriller a try and I liked the sound of this one. Let me tell you that once I really got into the book, I was hooked and couldn't wait to find out what was really going on. This was definitely an entertaining read.

The book is written in six points of view which does slow down its progress and tension. One of the POVs is labelled 'Him' which gives the reader lots of fun trying to identify who he is. There are heaps of male characters floating around which means lots of red herrings. Having had my fair share of school gate experiences with cliques of mothers, I could genuinely relate to how Sadie felt, when she found herself in the covert competitive parenting trap. Albeit more so in independent schools, social comparisons causes much envy and anxiety and the desire to have the top pupil in the class leads to many a fall out among adults. “The Lies You Told” showed women at their worst and this produced some very satirical antics that you had to laugh at but unfortunately it’s also disturbing to know that it actually occurs in real life. It is Marisa's 30th birthday (ready to inherit her trust fund, and Clare's portion will go to her). Her older sister, Brit is still playing mind games (very manipulative). Marisa is a talented professional photographer and every day fights to maintain her sobriety (around people and family who do not support her). But Marisa has been clean for a year. Her wedding photography business is flourishing. Brit is taking good care of her (even if it’s a little too much). She should be happy, but Marisa cannot rest until Clare’s case is solved. She has too many questions and no answers. Her smudgy memory doesn’t help either. I recommend this book to everyone who likes stories about unresolved crimes from years ago and complicated, and sometimes murderous, family relationships. Even though the victim is a young girl, there are no drastic descriptions of violence against her. However, there are quite detailed descriptions of how Marisa, not always successful, struggles with alcohol addiction - be warned in case you are sensitive to such issues. The plot in The Lies I Told pulled me in right away and I found myself caught up in Marisa's search for answers, both about her sister's death and the car crash that nearly killed her. Marisa remembers next to nothing about the days leading up to the crash but what she does remember is feeling afraid. She turns to the detective that investigated her sister's death to get information about the case as well as to get the report on her accident. I liked that Marisa had no formal training as an investigator and that she was just someone searching for the truth. A lot of her investigation is going over old ground in the hopes someone will change their story and I enjoyed this aspect as it filled us in on what happened when Clare died. Marisa's investigation went in several directions I wasn't expecting and I thought the ending was very well done with just the right amount of suspense to keep you guessing on how everything would turn out. The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.” — William James 35. Choose well. The slow-burner storyline, which had been fluidly crafted into one which was equally plot and character driven, was broken down into reasonably short chapters, which was just as well, as there was so much ground covered, with so many new twists thrown into the mix, that to have either rushed it further, or slowed down the pace any more, would have broken the spell completely. The courtroom scenes in particular, were very well defined and executed, by an author who was writing with total authority and confidence, in an arena she is completely familiar with.
