About this deal

Kerry Chang: Kerry is James's basic training partner. She is one of James's closest friends and has a severe knee injury, which prevented her from completing basic training in the past. All across the USA, people are showing up dead. The deaths don't appear to be connected in any way until one particular death occurs and gets the Secretary of Defense's attention. He arranges for a task force to investigate.

DON'T BE THAT PARENT, DON'T BE NAIVE, THESE BOOKS WILL GET THEM READING EVEN IF THEY HAVE NEVER READ A WORD IN THEIR LIFE. The first book in Robert Muchamore's spectacular CHERUB series follows James through his gruelling basic training, and an undercover mission which sees him helping to foil a group of terrorists. Chilling, convincing and brilliantly-written, this adventure will grip readers from beginning to end. Setting The Recruit 25 years ago lends an eerie sense of prophecy to the story, as the brutish faces of white supremacist movements are an all-too-familiar feature of today's current events. The Recruit is a nail-biter in the classic sense of the thriller, offering taut prose, compelling and diverse characters, and pitch-perfect pacing that delivers an explosive ending reminiscent of real-life events. Despite the unpleasant subject matter, Drew underscores the fact that good people still outnumber the bad ones — and that hope is an ever-replenishing gift we all should hold onto…for dear life, if necessary... continueda b c Moore, Kasey (September 24, 2022). " 'The Recruit' Noah Centineo Netflix Series: Everything We Know So Far". What's on Netflix . Retrieved October 3, 2022. The story begins with James sitting in his science class. He doesn’t like school very much, and he feels bored with the material. There is a girl that everyone likes named Samantha, who is a bit of a goody-two-shoes. James, however, knows a different side of Samantha, who teases him about his overweight mother. On this day, James cannot handle her taunting, and he snaps, pushing Samantha against a wall and injuring her. The teacher, Mrs. Voolt, yells at James, and he pushes her, too, in panic. Not knowing what to do, James runs from the classroom. He knows he will be in trouble with the school and with his mom, so instead of returning home, he goes to a park and hides within the playground. The Recruit is about a boy named James Choke who is frequently bullied at school because of his obese mother. This is when his whole world changes. He arrives home with his mother intoxicated and suddenly on the next day she is dead. From that moment, many other events occur throughout the book, and it begins with James being sent to a children's care home where he is looked after for a while but occasionally gets in trouble with the police. Then, one morning he wakes up in a campus which is part of the CHERUB organization which uses children to find information about terrorists and drug dealers as it is less suspicious. CHERUB explains to James why he came and soon he is put through some tests and 100 days of tough training which he passes. Therefore, after some time, he is given his first mission which involves the investigation of this place called Fort Harmony, where James soon figures out that there is going to be a disease called Anthrax which is going to spread through this important conference attended by many famous people. The terrorist group who were attempting to that, called 'Help Earth', however were caught except one member named Bungle who manages to elude. James successfully completes the mission at the end and has a break. The Recruit is the first novel in the CHERUB series, written by Robert Muchamore. It introduces most of the main characters, such as James Adams (formerly Choke), Lauren Adams (formerly Onions), Kyle Blueman, and Kerry Chang. It was released in the United Kingdom by Hodder Children's Books on 30 April 2004, and by Simon Pulse in the United States on 30 August 2005. a b Petski, Denise (January 26, 2023). After the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon fell to North Vietnamese military forces in April 1975, hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese escaped to American ships off the coast, either by boat or helicopter. In Alan Drew's The Recruit, the character Bao Phan is one of these refugees. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) estimates that over two million people left Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia in the 20 years after the fall of Saigon, and by 1992, more than a million had been admitted to the U.S. I suppose there is violence, but...this is a secret agent/spy book, so...seems fitting. Curse words pop up, other reviewers mentioned them- I think its more realistic to how kids actually behave when parents aren't in earshot and therefore, easier for the target audience (11+) to identify with the characters. a b Andreeva, Nellie (May 23, 2022). This series is easy to get hooked on and will keep you enthralled for days .. a surefire winner ( Yorkshire Evening Post) Samantha Jennings sat next to him. Teachers thought Samantha was fantastic: always volunteering for stuff, neat uniform, glossed nails. She did all her diagrams with three different colored pens and covered her textbooks in wrapping paper so they looked extra smart. But”Drew highlights what it's like to be a lost teenager looking for community in the worst possible places, whether it's a Vietnamese girl who loves someone she shouldn't or a white boy putting his trust in poisonous ideology. That's just one of the many ways in which The Recruit, set in 1987, feels almost contemporary. a b "Graymail". Production List. Film & Television Industry Alliance. September 13, 2021 .
