About this deal

It is well written, and the agent/double agent conundrum adds a twist to what would otherwise have been a simple story about surviving torture.

I’m not going to tell you anything about this book as it needs to be read to appreciate its uniqueness. Vertue said: “This book is a rollercoaster. A gorgeous period setting in the ‘50s with a very different kind of hero – plus magic and espionage and cliffhanger after cliffhanger. We couldn’t put it down – and when we make it, audiences won’t be able to switch it off.”Intriguing and completely original, this Cold War spy novel is just what every bookshelf needs' W.C. RYAN This book is huge fun - gripping, informative and very clever. I didn't want it to end! -- Peter James I hated and loved this book. To have the power to remind me of the stories I heard growing up about the holocaust and then make me laugh at a brilliant range of believably eccentric friends is beyond talent, it’s magic.

But then Louis agrees to spy for the British government (it's the height of the Cold War), and things grow far darker and messier. The tale becomes more psychological, the conflict more internal. Interwoven into Louis's tale are snippets from a primer on magic that he has written -- but there are strange passages that make us wonder what is really going on. There is nothing unconsidered in this book, love, war, pain, friends, betrayal and magic. I still don’t know if I want a sequel or I want Louis to have some peace.La librairie sera fermée le 1er novembre pour cause de jour férié. Les activités reprendront le lendemain. Everything about this book is incredible, the opening contract, the little magical asides, the story, the twists and turns. This was really cleverly written ,and as entertaining as I had hoped it would be.It was a perfect mix of magic , adventure and espionage .The characters were well written and believable An interesting and pleasurable thriller-type read, but not one with the flash and exuberance I might have expected. To many that will be to its credit. I came to this knowing nothing, beyond the reputation of the authorial pair behind it. So I'll hide the next para to keep the plot secret, for those who want the same. I love it when I come across a book that holds my attention and I’m not reading the same old same old stories.
