About this deal

My wife and I + little 3yr old, have finally outgrown my stalwart of a Wynnster Cairn 2 for our 'throw it in the boot and go' weekends. So I've decided to upgrade slightly. Downside: I would not recommend this tent for one person as it weighs more than you should carry and that's even after stripping down the spare guys, carry bag, porch mat and leaving one pole and other spares behind and I could not get the weight down to less than 3kgs, so far too much weight for one person to carry in the mountains. To walk up 2000 metres of height carrying this tent and all other equipment needed for a wild camp is really a drain on the energy and I would suggest using a lighter alternative if you wish to keep safe. If you have used this product please leave a review, or your comments for other visitors, many thanks! TBS® II – Tension Band System unique internal bracing system, ensures tent per forms in adverse weather conditions, especially high winds

Turn heaters off: Further warming the air inside the tent will increase water vapour in the air as warm air can support more moisture (our techy guys talk about dew points and percentage humidity), plus the warmer the tent is the more moisture will be released into the tent through evaporation and perspiration. Instead of heating the tent, warm yourself up with the right clothing and good sleeping bags. Venturi Vent System - air in the porch is drawn upwards as wind flows through the vent. Air moves from the rear of the tent to replace displaced air No built in groundsheet. You need to buy a separate one. I went for a cheap and cheerful groundsheet but not having a built in bathtub groundsheet was a new experience for me and I was not impressed. Water pooled in from the torrential rain seeping in. Unavoidable because of the bad design. Why have a nylon breathable floor? Make it make sense. Venturi Vent System – The added air flow creates a comfortable environment and will reduce condensation build up inside the tent fingeez... Yeah, I think you're right. It's coming in at a whole kilo over the 200. Hmm, looks like I'll just have to stay single a while longer!

Good Points: After one practice it took about 5 minutes to get the tent pitched and ready for use, I decided to keep all the clips connected after my practice run as this would save time later and it did. it has a large interior for one person and you can easily fit all your walking equipment inside and if using it for two people it has a roomy porch area for use as extra storage, which you could cook in. It has enough ventilation and there was no trouble with condensation. It has a low profile so does not stand out in the countryside. I would recommend this tent for two people as you could share the weight, one person carrying this in the mountains would easily tire. It handles the wind very well and also the rain. The internal support straps mean that it doesn't move at all in the wind but is low enough for that not to matter. Never cook inside: Primarily for safety but cooking also releases large amounts of moisture into the air. Remember that extractor fan in the kitchen at home?

But I find a 6 stone labrador lying (farting and snoring) between you is a bit of a passion killer every time! The tent is easy enough so as to be pitched by one person and can be pitched with the outer and inner still together so make things even simpler.Ventilate your tent!: The most effective way to prevent condensation is to ventilate your tent and reduce the internal humidity of your tent by promoting a good airflow. Examine your tent for low and high venting options and open them to let the moist air flow out. If the weather conditions permit, leave the upper and lower sections of the door open, mesh sections can be kept fully zipped. If appropriate, also ensure vents at the rear of the tent are fully open. Make sure the vents are not obstructed by bags or sleeping bodies. Breathable polyester inner allows condensation to pass through for a more comfortable night's sleep I use Halo 400s for my DofE group and they would be snug for 4 adults, I'd go for one of these it will only cost a few bob more than a 300 and give you a bit more room. They are very stable and the two exits are handy, not for carrying though unless you have 4 DofEs to do it for you. I think the layout of the Halo is better for family camping than the Tempest, use Tempest200s for the Gold group as they are a bit more organised when camping.

Tents designed with good ventilation and an inner tent will fair best. In certain weather conditions, the design of any tent can be overwhelmed by moisture. For example, if it is a cold night and there is no breeze to circulate the warm, moist air out of the tent, condensation is likely to form. Vango Protex® 70 denier polyester flysheet, 3000mm HH - Highly waterproof, durable and reliable fabric. Exclusive to Vango It's big enough for two blokes as the porch is big enough to stash loads of gear and provides plenty of space for cooking, plus the porch groundsheet is a real bonus and something you don't get in a lot of other tents. As a solo tent it would be luxurious. OK let's be fair here. Vango changed the design of the Tempest after a couple of years. I'm a DofE Leader and I bought 8 Tempests to go with out 4 Banshees. I wish I'd bought Banshees instead. The Tempest is bigger (and a little heavier) so it's better for three teenagers, and it has a porch. But it doesn't perform as well in the wet and wind as the Banshee. Don’t pitch too close to water: Rivers and lakes can increase humidity. Pitching your tent, a little further away from water sources can help reduce condensation.Only complaint was I'd love it to have been a tiny bit taller, but obviously for a tent this size it's to be expected. Still was able to sit up in it, get changed, etc. Comfortably fit me, my bag and Thermarest mattress in, but can't say I'd recommend it for two person use. lightweight polyester groundsheet – Durable, reliable and waterproof with a 6000mm Hydrostatic Head Built tough and sturdy, it has a ripstop flysheet, with Yunan Eco Alloy poles as well as many more technical features. The Venturi Vent System creates a more comfortable environment inside, by reducing the build-up of condensation.
