About this deal

That’s because, sadly, depression often makes us push people away when we need them most. It’s very common to believe that showing people around you that you’re struggling is burdensome. You then withdraw from people, believing that your depressed self will only bring other people down.

I really wanted to love this after following Dr Julie on social media for quite some time now, but I just didn’t. It was quite bland and I felt often like she only scratched the surface. I was expecting more science, more depth. But it just felt a bit like there were too many things covered in not enough depth. We can democratize mental health and therapeutic services by sharing the tools to help people. It's not a replacement for trained professionals. However, a little education can go a long way to help people live healthier lives. But sometimes, when a low mood is lasting or recurs very often, we tend to think it’s because of hardwiring in our brains, and that we don’t have any influence over our painful emotions.

Berkali-kali journaling disebut di sini sebagai cara yang direkomendasikan untuk dicoba. Journaling is such an underrated technique, yang kalau mau di-explore dan dicoba, who knows, bisa aja lo dapatin benefitnya. #GrissDutaJournaling ✍️ A profound book from clinical Psychologist Dr Julie Smith. It provides phenomenal insight into how our minds work, and sound advice on managing our emotions and thoughts more effectively, particularly in response to challenges such as anxiety, stress, depression, low confidence, grief and more. Feelings aren’t just in your head,” Dr. Smith says. They can come from inside your body, the state of your household, your current circumstances, things that happened in the past, and of course the people you interact with. To draw out your unmet needs, Smith recommends asking yourself several questions, maybe even journaling about them on the regular: Dr. Smith's writing style is empathetic and compassionate, creating a safe space for readers to explore their emotions and vulnerabilities. The book not only provides practical tools but also promotes a deeper understanding of how our minds work. This knowledge enables readers to fortify their mental health proactively, making it an essential companion in the journey towards self-care. Mindfulness - achieving a state of mind that prays attention to the present moment (a gym workout for the mind).

As someone into psychology, self-help, and therapy, I learned nothing new from reading this book. The author's "knowledge" seems as basic and mainstream as it gets. You can't control the thoughts that arrive in your mind. The part you can control is what you do once they appear'. This is a must read for any human being. This is the best gift you could give yourself or any one of your loved ones. It’s a precious book that holds a special place in my heart (and book shelf ;)) and I will keep my eyes open in case the author decides to release anything else.Book Genre: Audiobook, Health, Mental Health, Nonfiction, Personal Development, Psychology, Self Help Before you know it, a swarm of negative, self-critical thoughts are buzzing around your head. If we fuse with those thoughts and allow them to consume us, they can send the already low mood spiralling down further. All those self-help books that told the world to just think positive didn’t account for the fact that you can’t control the thoughts that arrive in your mind. The power of any thought is in how much we buy into it and how much we believe it to be true and meaningful. Thoughts aren't facts, they're judgements, theories, memories, predictions, and interpretations about the future. The brain's job is to save us as much time and energy as possible and this means it takes short-cuts and makes guesses / predictions all the time but with limited information. The book is a self-help one revolving around mental health and ways to cope with every day challenges. It is divided into main parts -each discussing a certain topic- with multiple chapters in each part. The chapters are short for the most part with a summary at the end of each chapter. Sound wisdom, easy to gulp down. I'm sure this book is already helping lots of people. Great work, Dr Julie' MATT HAIG, bestselling author of REASONS TO STAY ALIVE

It’s good, basic, helpful advice. Probably every reader will find several things that make a difference. I was impressed how often her discussions on each kind of life challenge involved some aspect of mindfulness. She talks very practically about mindfulness during real-time living, and has an impressively simple, basic way of describing what it is. I’m gonna go ahead and just quote her on mindfulness about thoughts:Perhaps the sky has clouded over and it has started to rain. Maybe you are hungry or dehydrated. When you run for the bus you notice you warm up. Our body temperature is aected by our environment, both internal and external, and we also have the power to influence it ourselves. Mood is much the same.
