I have been looking for a book to help children understand their feelings and worries that they may have, and this is it! The Worrysaurus is a little dinosaur who has lots of anxious thoughts about what could go wrong in his daily life, but he is brave and finds several ways to conquer them and is happy. The language is easily accessible, and the author’s use of rhyme produces a lullaby-effect to soothe children and make them feel calm.

Rachel Bright is a wordsmith, illustrator and professional thinker of happy thoughts. She has written several books for children, including Love Monster, The Lion Inside and The Koala Who Could– winner of the Evening Standard Oscar’s Book Prize and the Sainsbury’s Book Award. Her books have sold over 300,000 copies in the UK alone and been translated into over 30 languages. She is also the creator of award-winning stationery and homewares range, The Brightside. Rachel lives on a farm near the seaside, with her partner and their two young daughters. She once won a week-long date in Tahiti, with ‘Man of the Millenium’ featured in Marie Claire magazine (and then spent a long time living it down). It might be me, but teaching „Carpe Diem“ to pre-schoolers, they of the „why do I need to go to bed? Why do I need to brush teeth? Why do I need to go to the bathroom before long travels?“ seems extremely, nay horribly, insanely ill-advised.

This reading unit comprises 6 weeks of shared reading sessions, focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from Development Matters. Each weekly plan provides an opportunity for the practise of prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills as well as having a mastery focus for explicit teaching of inference.

I don't normally review kids books because let's face it, like most parents I read the same 20-30 books over and over and over and over and ...
