As well as producing JPEGs, the Yi 4K+ records raw images at DNG files. However, shooting in raw does require a little patience, with an approx. 10-seconds wait between each shot. The build quality is premium, it extends the cameras battery life and lets you get your #spielberg on like a pro.

The Xiaomi Mijia 4K Action Camera has a beautiful metal frame with a nice finish – a quality texture plastic of sorts. This texture feels great in your hands and it makes it look premium. Matching most of the features of the GoPro, albeit at 'only' 4K, the Osmo Action 4 boasts a bigger image sensor so performs better in lower light, making this our favourite at a pinch. It’s only when we consider how much more expensive the GoPro Session is, that we start to see what excellent value the MiJia 4K Mini has to offer.Another action cam feature that the MiJia 360 boasts is its ability to work in temperatures as cold as -10 degrees Celsius. This, when combined with its digital stabilisation, means it’s a good option for snow sports as long as you’re careful. When I first used the Xiaomi Mi Band, the companion app was poor. After a year it had transformed so much I didn’t recognise the original. The Mi Sphere App is starting off well, so can only get better!

Xiaomi never ceases to amaze me. I mean, I review their products for a living and I know what to expect from them. I know it’s about low quality and high features. But they do it time and time again with numerous devices. With a waterproof body, 4K at 60FPS, and electronic image stabilization, plus a pile of accessories (including a spare battery and remote control), this has a lot going for it.

That said though, if you are a vlogger or social media influencer who will likley be capturing their 4k video in slower-paced activities then the footage from the Xiaomi Mi 4K may meet your needs. The sample video above has been captured using the Xiaomi Mi 4K action camera and offers some realistic examples of what you can expect for regular day to day use of the camera. As you can see, for tasks such as vlogging, the Xiaomi Mi 4K can probably meet your needs but in our opinion, the Akaso V50 Pro or Apeman Trawo are better options. Although some of the latest phones, like the iPhone 14, have image stabilization like a GoPro or other action camera, do you really want to risk breaking your phone? Action cameras have a rugged and compact build which makes them harder to break, and GoPro, for example, has a Pro Tune feature to help get a more professional looking image, too.
