For digital strips, the voltage for each LED is controlled by microcontrollers mounted on the strip. The microcontrollers require the full amount of voltage from the power supply, so power injection is done by wiring the power supply directly to the strip. Hi Arduino community! Once you have an estimate of the power usage of your strip, a good rule of thumb is to add another 20% (strip power / 0.8).
