About this deal

She wasn’t someone who’d care what they thought. I noticed that straight away. I also noticed how she introduced herself to me on my first shift. Even in the unflattering cut of the cinema uniform, she was not someone your eye would pass over. Some of the girls described her looks as crooked, and there was a certain strangeness to her face, a boldness and strength in the way the bones formed behind her alabaster skin. There was nothing petite in how her features knitted together. I’d never seen another face like hers and the subject of her attractiveness would provoke great debate in the staffroom whenever she left it. I never got involved. She looked just fine to me. We were propping open the double doors to a sold-out showing. I forget which film. As the end credits began, we each stood against a door, waiting for the audience to file out between us. ‘Hi, I’m Anna,’ she said, putting a hand out for me to shake. ‘You’re new, aren’t you?’ I think I mumbled as I took her hand. Not many nineteen-year-olds were in the habit of handshakes or introductions, but like I say, she was different. I don’t recall how I got her number, but life is made of small victories you forget. A modern day Atonement meets David Nicholls. Beautifully written - I couldn't put it down -- Emma Gannon I loved it, so glad I read it. Beautifully written, made me think about love and breaking out into a world that is completely different -- Zoey Lyons Essentially, Another Life is a love story, but not the conventional kind. There’s no “fall in love & happy every after”. Oh no. We all know life gets in the way too often to allow that to happen! Ultimately, it's a story of two characters from very different worlds, stumbling through life and its challenges. They're always on the cusp of a relationship, but repeatedly pushed apart because of their choices, beliefs and obstacles. But there's always something.

Another Life by Jodie Chapman | Waterstones

We're delighted to present an extract from Another Life, the debut novel by Jodie Chapman, published by Michael Joseph. The characters are brought to life in a way that will leave you rooting for them. A touching tale about female friendship [and] finding strength when you need it most' GRAZIA Bellísima narración y personajes muy potentes. Deep, rich, thoughtful. It reminded me of how I felt when I first read David Nicholls and Jodi Picoult. It's the Romeo and Juliet of our generation -- Gillian McAllister

Another Life by Jodie Chapman | Goodreads

As the daughter of a librarian Jen's love of books started from a very early age. Her reading obsession continued throughout her teenage years when she studied both English Language and English Literature at college. Born and raised in England, Jodie spent a decade as a photographer before returning to her first love of writing. She lives in Kent with her husband and three sons. Just when I thought I understood her, she would melt away and become a completely new person, and I'd have to start all over again.Basta una parola non detta, una decisione non presa, una porta non dimenticata aperta oppure non essersi voltati in tempo per cambiare in un soffio la combinazione e farci ritrovare in un punto piuttosto che in un altro. Anna had a boyfriend when I met her. Or she did at first. Apparently he'd taken off for the summer to Australia, but the details were hazy and I never actually asked. A few of the girls talked once in the staff- room about how they’d never actually seen her with him. One said she doubted his existence. Her friend Lisa had shut them down. 'They’re on a break,’ she said and refused to divulge the reason. ‘But he does exist.’ A beautifully written story of love in all its forms . . . The writing is stunning and intuitive, and the story is one I don't think I will forget * NB Magazine *
