If you take Beechams max strength all in one in the hour before or the six hours after taking colestyramine, the paracetamol is likely to be less effective. This is because colestyramine reduces the absorption of paracetamol from the gut. A minor hydroxylated metabolite which is usually produced in very small amounts by mixed-function oxidases in the liver and which is usually detoxified by conjugation with liver glutathione may accumulate following paracetamol overdose and cause liver damage. Don't take Beechams max strength all in one if you're taking any of the following medicines, because the combination may increase your blood pressure:This medicinal product contains 19% v/v ethanol (alcohol) i.e. 3.8 ml per 20 ml dose, equivalent to 76 ml beer or 31.6 ml wine. Warnings and precautions: Patients should be advised not to take other paracetamol-containing or any other cold, flu or decongestant products concurrently. Care is advised in the administration of paracetamol to patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment. Medical advice should be sought before taking this product in patients with: glutathione depletion due to metabolic deficiencies or occlusive vascular disease. Use in caution in patients taking digoxin, cardiac glycosides and ergot alkaloids. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. Contains 3.8g sucrose per dose. Caution in patients with diabetes. Contains source of phenylalanine. May be harmful for people with phenylketonuria. Contains 135mg sodium per dose. Medical advice should be sought if symptoms worsen, persist for more than 7 days or are accompanied by high fever, skin rash or persistent headache. Pharmacological interactions involving paracetamol with a number of other drugs have been reported. These are considered to be of unlikely clinical significance in acute use at the dosage regimen proposed. The lowest dose necessary to achieve efficacy should be used for the shortest duration of treatment. Concomitant use of other paracetamol-containing products should be avoided.
