About this deal

Tent Style – This is the shape of the tent. Styles include Tunnel, Dome and Ridge, as well as many others The hydrostatic head rating of the fly and groundsheet means that this tent can survive easily in spring, summer and autumn, just as Vangi suggest by giving this a 3 season rating. There are also tents with inflatable poles. You'll need to pump up each pole individually, so it can take a bit of effort, but you can avoid trying to feed the poles through the tent canvas. When choosing a tent, whether it is for wild camping or family camping, there are various factors you will need to consider:

There’s so much information available online when we’re shopping now, that it’s easy to find lots of detail about products like Berghaus Grampian 3 Tent. This is of course really helpful, but there’s almost too much information available, so it’s important to know exactly what you’re looking for. The Berghaus Grampian 2 man tent is a 3 season tent designed to be used for most of the year in the UK. With a hydrostatic head rating of 3,000mm for the fly, it can withstand typical UK precipitation. Lightweight and sturdy construction - fully-geodesic pole design provides unrivalled strength without the weight. Recently spent a long weekend on Exmoor, it rained and rained but inside the tent was perfectly dry with no condensation, very impressed. However, it's probably best to avoid touching the ceiling of your tent from the inside if there's a lot of water pooling on the outside. This is because you'll break the surface tension between water droplets on the outside and the canvas underneath, and this could cause leaks. Waterproofing – This is measured by Hydrostatic Head, which is how large a column of water your tent could resist

The tunnel design allows for a large storage area without having to compromise on the bedroom space. Tents with rigid poles made of stainless steel or aluminium are for building a rigid frame that will keep your tent sturdy in the wind. They can be heavier and more cumbersome to pitch, though. The Naturehike 20D Mongar is designed to be lightweight and tough. At 2,180 grams, it is not too heavy for one person to carry on a long trek, whilst the anti-stretch fabric with added rip-stop technology creates an extra-strong and durable outer shell. The 4,000 mm hydrostatic head rating for both the fly and groundsheet means this should withstand the UK weather for 3 seasons of the year. The outer width of 175cm gives you a small storage area for your camping gear, but not really enough if you are planning on camping for a long period of time and will need more gear with you.Waterproof exterior - rip stop polyester flysheet with a 3000mm HH and a groundsheet with a 5000mm HH will keep you dry and survive the hard conditions of the outdoors. The porch area has been designed to accommodate bikes, so you can store them inside the tent and keep them dry. If you split this between the two of you, it will still be fairly heavy, but you will have a significant amount of storage available to you. The doors have 2 way zips on them which gives the versatility of opening them up fully, or just having the top opened a little bit if needed. There are clips on the sides of the doors so that they can be rolled to one side and held out of the way. The Lightwave t20 Trail tunnel tent is a 4 season tent, meaning it is designed to be used in all weathers. The hydrostatic head of 5,000mm is more than adequate for UK weather.

We consider how easy it is to get into and out of the main entrances and sleeping compartments, how bright and roomy the living spaces are, and if we consider there to be enough room for the number of people intended to sleep in the tent. That got us thinking though, that we’re looking at every possible item from Berghaus so it would be good to narrow our search down even further and only look at Berghaus branded products within the Weekend Tents category. The cost of Berghaus Weekend Tents Once the tents are up, we closely inspect the interior of each one and rate them on how likely campers are to have a comfortable and enjoyable experience that meets their needs. Not all tents have indoor communal spaces that can house all the campers if the weather turns, and even those that do aren't always large enough for everyone to be comfortable. The hydrostatic head is quite low on this tent, but should be ample for most of the year in the UK.

The Grampian 2 was out of the bag and pitched in only a few minutes, including attaching the inner tub style bedroom. To give that price some context we then looked at all of the products available from Go Outdoors in the Weekend Tents category. We found 16 items in total. What’s the price of Weekend Tents? The durable ripstop polyester groundsheet and flysheet are waterproof and breathable, preventing outside moisture from getting in and condensation from building up. Airflow is supported by front and rear vents, while the tub-style bedrooms ensure that groundwater is kept out. We inspect the interiors of the tents during and after testing to see how each fares against the elements. Some tents manage to stay firm, but others blow over and even have puddles in the sleeping compartments. We found ourselves in deepest darkest Bewdley as we wanted to go for a decent walk around the Wyre Forest in preparation for our Scottish West Highland Way 96 mile hike. We of course also needed an excuse to cook up some steak and pasta and eat it in the fresh air. So the Berghaus Grampian 2 became our base for the night, and what a great base it was.

The hydrostatic head rating for the fly and the groundsheet should be suitable for typical British weather, with the tent designed for 3 season camping. When buying Weekend Tents, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying. As you can see there are lots of factors to consider when looking for a tent for wild camping. From my research, I believe that the best 2 man tent for wild camping is the Vango F10 Xenon UL 2+ as it offers a great balance between prices and performance. If you know you are likely to be camping in milder weather, the Naturehink 20D Mongar is a great value for money option.

The downside with this tent is the weight. At 4.2kg, you will need to split this between the 2 of you to make it comfortable to carry. With a semi-geodesic design, the Terra Nova Voyager is build to withstand all seasons. With a massive 6,000mm hydrostatic head rating on the fly, you should never get caught out in the British weather.
