About this deal

If you couldn't tell from the blurb I included, provided in the arc I received of the anthology Realms of Fae and Shadow, the story is set in the past - this is not an urban fantasy -, which makes Elora being a swordmaster even cooler! I hoped we will get the witch pov to understand her more but unfortunately we didn’t, I expected her to be more powerful from the way the talk about her, but she’s just misunderstood and lost and needed someone to care for her and love her 😢 I was too afraid of my stepmother to ignore her admonishment. I was all too aware that as my stepsisters left, there would be less and less of a bulwark between us. My future lay in her hands and she was little motivated to treat it with care.

Bitterthorn by Kat Dunn | Goodreads

Elora dreams of adventure. With her unwanted marriage approaching, she is desperate to have some excitement before it arrives. A dryad appears and asks for help with saving a lost fae prince from the clutches of an evil queen. Believing it’s nothing more than a dream, Elora agrees willingly. During their escape they have to fight against some trolls and she proves to be a strong fighter and succeeds in protecting the prince. Who during the battle with the trolls made think that he acts a little like Loki 😂 (love Loki by the way ♥️) History Makers: Female Writers Dominate the 2023 William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award Shortlist That loneliness I feared, the meaninglessness, the unwantedness, it had already happened. I could try to fight and hold it away forever, or I could grieve what my life had been, see it for what it was, and stop being controlled by the fear of it.” Klara found me in my room kneeling amongst my samples, smudged glasses perched on the bridge of my nose.

Success!

A moody and stylish Gothic tale that feels both fresh and timeless - a masterful meditation on grief, loneliness, and terrible love. Gutting and unforgettable' - Ava Reid, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Wolf and the Woodsman A series of menu cards and sheets of notepaper were scattered on the tables between her and her daughters. Blumwald is a town overshadowed by an ancient curse: in a sinister castle in the depths of the wild wood lives a monstrous Witch. Once a generation, she comes to claim a companion to return with her – never to be seen again. Now that time is drawi...

I asked after his journey and he waved me into a chair with a dismissive hand. My father would bring me to his side occasionally when he felt like it, and I waited for those moments like drops of rain in a drought. For a moment I would feel like his daughter again, like the loss of my mother hadn’t fractured us. In the distance, above the golden canopy of the dying forest, about as far as I could see on a clear, bright day, was the Witch’s castle. Home > Bitterthorn by Kat Dunn follows Mina, grieving and lonely, who offers herself up to the town curse, and to the Witch to be her next companion. But what happened to the captors before her, and what awaits her in the castle? The plot is perfectly balanced high-stakes action with deftly executed twists, at once smart and stylish, and raw and brutal. Dylan pulls no punches and you don't want her to. There's the kind of world building that makes a story fresh and exciting, the kind of place you really want to visit (holo parks yes please!) even though I'd probably get some kind of pollution poisoning in three minutes flat. I turned my father’s words over like a newly acquired geological specimen, some shiny square of pyrite or rough wedge of schist, looking for the grain, the structure, the signs of its origin and nature. I loved the relationship between Mina and the Witch, it had such an awkward and tense beginning but slowly blossomed into something so beautiful and tender. Dream or not, this might be her only chance for a real adventure before she’d be forced to marry a stranger. How could she say no to that?
