About this deal

Students are facing a different media landscape to the one that existed when Boy Overboard was first published. These days it can be very easy to only engage with media which reinforces your view of the world. By encouraging students to explore the intentions of the author and how that might influence the reader, we can better prepare students to think about and form informed opinions on complex issues in the future. Should Children's Authors Write About Controversial Topics? Your mummy and daddy love you very much,’ she’d say. ‘But people can’t fry potatoes after they’re dead.” ― Morris Gleitzman, Maybe “Everybody deserves to have something good in their life. In the journey to Australia they passing hardship in the boat, and in the aircraft, finally they reached to an island in the pacific ocean and there they start them new life. Truthfully, I loved the idea of the story. A family breaking all the rules –things that in Australia we do everyday– and have to run for survival. It seemed like such a wonderful plot. I think it is Gleitzman's best, along with 'Once'. Every child (and adult) should read it. (Unfortunately, I can't recommend the sequel, 'Girl Underground' quite so highly. It is OK, but takes a long while to get going, with my class losing interest before getting to the good bits). It was a good and fairly education a book and I enjoyed every bit of it, there where definitly some cliffhangers that left me on the edge of my seat. However the end of the book was also and cliffhanger and for me that was a bit disappointing but kind of fine because I just imagined a happy ending.

Collection of short stories. Contains all stories from Give Peas A Chance, Pizza Cake and Snot Chocolate, plus one new story.

About Morris Gleitzman

The 62-year-old said he wrote his first book, The Other Facts Of Life, in 1985 and said a number of things inspired him to keep writing. “The knowledge that somebody I’ve never met somewhere I’ve never been can read one of my stories and laugh and cry at the same things as me (inspires me),” he said. I ignore him. I decide to shoot low and try for a curve. You have to with Yusuf. He’s really good at diving saves, specially for a kid with only one leg. My first thought is to yell at her. Then I remember she’s only nine. Two years ago I used to get distracted and forget things too. Bibi must have forgotten that girls aren’t allowed to leave the house without a parent. She must have forgotten that females have to keep their faces covered at all times out of doors. And it must have slipped her mind that girls playing soccer is completely, totally and absolutely against the law.
