Love the drama in this one! It's always a treasure when the plot revolves around the inter-character conflicts and the mistakes they all make along the way. It really strengthens the impact of everything that happens and makes even smaller moments shine. Extremely excited to see where the third volume will take us after the final scenes in this one. a b Perine, Aaron (13 January 2013). "Netflix Cancels Another Fan-Favorite Animated Series". ComicBook.com. Archived from the original on 13 January 2023 . Retrieved 13 January 2013. Thank you TBRbeyondtours for this #gifted copy! I ate up The Watcher's Test and The Broken Halo in a day, which is saying something because I don't read that fast. Based on just that, you should get it. And not even because it's going to be a Netflix animated show. The trans, autism, and diversity rep in this is stunning. It's definitely everything I've ever wanted to read in my life. I'm glad I got to see it before I died. Kanter, Jane (2 July 2020). "Netflix To Adapt Hamish Steele's 'DeadEndia' Graphic Novels Into 2D Animated Series". Deadline Hollywood. Archived from the original on 3 July 2020.When writing Book 3, I definitely found writing the character voices a lot easier. I could hear the actors in my head whenever I was writing. But genuinely, Book 3 is the ending I always imagined when I started the series all those years ago. Norma and Badyah investigate the case surrounding Jennifer Swan's disappearance. Norma believes Barborah Winslow ( Karen Maruyama), a stunt double who had a grudge with Pauline, is responsible. They are surprised to learn that a string of Pauline impersonators have all disappeared at one point but still work for the park. Meanwhile, Barney has a tense conversation with his family. They ask him to return home, but he refuses since they didn't defend him against his grandmother's transphobic comments. Barney and Norma head to the museum and finds Barborah disguised there as a custodian. She explains that she is looking for an insurance ad to prove who Pauline truly is. Pugsley uses his powers to show the ad on a TV, but the ghost of Pauline appears and tries to stop them. Barborah holds Pauline off as Barney, Norma, and Pugsley jump into the TV. This book had many of the elements that I enjoyed from the first book in the series such as diverse representation, plenty of adventure, and even more character development. The story takes some twists that I wouldn’t have expected when completing the first book, but I had so much fun reading it. I even experienced a couple “laugh out loud” moments.

Following the aftermath of the destruction of Dead End, the characters mostly split up and have their own adventures. Barney and Logs find out happily-ever-after has a few road bumps, Norma works to control her new ghost powers, and more of Courtney's past is revealed.

As with the first Deadendia, The Broken Halo has a slow, stumbling start that leads to a thrilling conclusion. Norma must come to terms with the fact that she's part-ghost. Barney must find something to do so he's not such a layabout - demon wrestling being the natural option. It takes far too long for these plotlines to collide, particularly when the demon wrestling feels so silly. Readability: ★★☆☆☆, It is very jumpy because of all of the different POVs, timeskips and sudden big character changes that feel unnatural. It doesn’t feel personal, but rushed and unorganized. I could read it fast but felt like I was missing a lot and not understanding the characters’ choices. As with the first book, the execution of the show strays quite a bit from the source material. But I still enjoy both versions. They each have their own charm and I love the combo of mystery, adventure, spookiness, and humor, and of course the queer characters.
