About this deal

Let’s talk about f/1.2. This is a huge selling point for this lens and, when you nail focus, you can see why. You buy a lens like this to shoot wide open obviously but don’t forget that the focal plane is so narrow you may, more often than you think, miss focus.

Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 R WR (Mark II) Review Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 R WR (Mark II) Review

I can honestly say that I believe this lens is noticeably snappier when it comes to focusing acquisition. I used it on my X-Pro3 and my newly acquired X-H2S, which performed amazingly well. No Linear Motor

My Final Ratings

Fujifilm unveils the latest interchangeable lenses roadmap for the X Series of mirrorless digital cameras It toggles between auto aperture control (the ring is set to A) or manual aperture control (the switch is set to one of the aperture values). Thanks to the IF mechanism the front of the lens does not rotate on focus, which is very good news for anyone looking to use the lens in conjunction with a polariser or graduated neutral density filter. You can get an idea of the size difference between the original Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 and the Mark II below. I’m not sure this lens was ever designed to be a must-have lens for a travel photographer. I wanted to see whether I could bring the high quality portrait images and combine that with a walk around mid-telephoto lens. I tried my hardest but unfortunately, for me, it hasn’t worked out.

Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R WR Review | Photography Blog

Whilst there is no doubt a linear motor would have been well received, I really can't notice much, if any, focusing delays - and it feels as snappy as the new 18mm F1.4 in that respect. Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 R WR (Mark II) Review - Weight & SizeGiven the sheer amount of glass in this lens, my understanding is that it would make it substantially larger. Something to do with smoother bokeh… Crazy to think there are three different variations of the same lens within the XF ecosystem. (And it’s only 10 years old!) I tested the Single, Continuous and Manual focusing of the Fuji 56mm f1.2 using an XT1 body, and compared it against the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4, the Zeiss Touit 32mm f1.8, and out of curiousity, also against the Leica Nocticron mounted on an Olympus OMD EM1 body. You will also notice on the 50mm there is a slight pulsing to find the eye, but the 56mm F1.2 WR performs these autofocus pulls rather smoothly. The perfect portraiture lens, the Fujifilm 56mm f1.2 R XF Fujinon Lens offers a 85mm-equivalent focal length and a super-fast maximum aperture of f1.2. This lens is capable of great things; it's stunningly sharp, bright, has incredible AF acquisition and is at home in light or dark conditions. Its control of depth of field and subject isolation would be note-worthy by any photographer's standards.
