About this deal

A funny and heartfelt novel for any woman who wonders how the hell she got here and why life isn't quite how she imagined it was going to be... I feel bad giving this such a low rating, I did find this book a really easy read and I enjoyed reading a romance set in Glasgow and featuring places I know.

Sophie was egged on to share dating experiences online while on holiday with friends 18 months ago. I read it in a day and being from Glasgow was excited to read about someone dating and living in the area. I don’t feel that being set in Glasgow added much to the story, there could have been so much more made of it. The story was okay, but I did get a bit fed up of some of the stuff repeating throughout (why does she continually refer to her vagina as fishy?) and why is she obsessed with the “girth of the end of the penis”! From the same pen of the popular Sex in the Glasgow City blog, the book, telling the dating woes of 29-year-old Glaswegian nurse Zara Smith, became a sensation in 2021.Cheered on by best friends Ashley and Raj, Zara embarks on a string of dating escapades that are as hilarious as they are disastrous. From online dating to blind dates, hometown hook-ups to flirty bartenders, nothing is off limits. A novel based on a young woman's Glasgow's dating disasters has beaten Shades of Grey on the erotic fiction charts. Glasgow Lives: Willie, Southside, bar operator and event producer and Josh, 29, Southside, head of drinks and experience at The Drink Cabinet Meet Zara Smith: 29, single and muddling her way through life as a trainee nurse in Glasgow. With 30 fast approaching, she’s determined to do whatever it takes to find love – or at least someone to sext! Cheered on by best friends Ashley and Raj, Zara embarks on a string of dating escapades that are as hilarious as they are disastrous. From online dating to blind dates, hometown hook-ups to flirty bartenders, nothing is off limits. The sheer volume of grammatical, spelling and formatting issues put me off this book from the start. It’s very evidently self published and would have benefitted from an editor.

It could be any street, in any city. But it's not. It's Glasgow. And it's May - the marching season. The Orange Walks have begun. I created a spider diagram of all the ridiculous things that had happened throughout the years. Now, a couple of hours a night I write. Most books about Glasgow tend to be quite dour, based around poverty. I wanted to bring fun to Glasgow with my book. When Jeanie's aunt gifts her the beloved Pumpkin Spice Café in the small town of Dream Harbor, Jeanie jumps at the chance for a fresh start away from her very dull desk job. But when Dr Tom Adams, aka Sugar Daddy, shows interest, it's a game-changing moment. Zara has had a crush on Tom since her very first day at the aesthetics clinic she works at part-time. As things heat up between them, Zara can't help but wonder: is this it? Or is it another disaster waiting to happen? I use Scottish humour throughout the book and I think Glasgwegians in particular will relate to it.
