A self-professed keyboard enthusiast with a modest but expanding mechanical keyboard collection, I've also been testing and reviewing keyboards for gaming, productivity, and creative work for years. While this is my first time building a keyboard from scratch, I have been modding my own keebs since 2022. Because I got the keyboard-building kit version, I spent some time building the actual keyboard before getting around to testing it. After it was built, I tested it for two weeks, using it as my main keyboard for productivity and play.

The RGB lighting, which you’ll also find at the sides for a touch of ambient lighting, is bright and vibrant, and while it is a little on the heavy side at 3.3 lbs (1.51Kg), its 75% with 82 keys layout saves you space while ensuring you’ve still got access to keys that are vital to productivity. Even the cable is removable so you can spring for a coiled one that’s more robust and better looking. If you can afford it, however, you’ll be pleased to know that Glorious ships to the UK and Australia.

Assembling the GMMK Pro was very easy, because it’s hot-swappable and supports any 3 or 5 Cherry MX-compatible switches. I just popped some switches and keycaps in and plugged the keyboard in and It worked. The GMMK Pro offers fully customisable RGB lighting with over 16.8 million RGB colours plus multiple modes and animations. With its signature side lighting panels, this keyboard will shine with the multiple effects it has available, making for elegant and immersive gaming sessions. Because the GMMK Pro is a gasket-mount design, it’s supposed to do two things differently than most other mounting styles, which is to provide some flex when typing (for those who like it) and provide a more uniform sound profile amongst the entire board. Disappointingly for gasket fans, there really isn’t any flex.

From keycap to macro, the GMMK Pro can be configured just the way you like it, giving you more power for gaming. Complemented with a stylish design that’s built to last, it’s an ultimate peripheral fit to use with any PC. Barebones keyboards are supposed to provide a helpful bridge between the simplicity of buying pre-built keyboards and the complexity of building your own unit from scratch. The price you’ll pay to build it to its entirety and the modifications you’ll have to make to it begs the question, “Why buy this?” With its build-quality issues, Glorious does not lay out a nice welcome mat for those looking to get into the hobby of building mechanical keyboards.
