The Google Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro offer very similar designs, though the Pro model offers a slightly more premium finish with a curved display, as well as a triple rear camera compared to the Pixel 6, while the Pixel 6 offers a more premium finish than the Pixel 6a. The design of the Google Pixel 6 Pro is strikingly different – although it’s not unique, as it shares a look with the Google Pixel 6 – with a camera band that spans the entire width of the phone and houses its powerful new camera array.

Finally, Google is even making phone calls less painful with the Pixel 6 Pro. After introducing Hold for Me last year, it added two new features for 1-800 calls. The Tensor processor allows Google to focus exclusively on the features and experiences it believes Pixel owners want. The 50MP main shooter, which has an f/1.9 aperture and 1.2µm pixels is the camera you’ll likely be using the most. We found it was able to take high-res photos with good detail and true-to-life colors. On the front of the phone you’ll find an 11.1MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture. In our testing we found that this gave us nice-looking portrait shots, good picture quality for video calls, and natural skin tones in our selfies.

It’s the most remarkable element of the design, and it’s an acquired taste, and something that’s certain to divide opinion. Its curved edges ensure the phone sits comfortably in your hand, although some may find it a touch slippery to hold – we found that a case mitigated that issue.

Both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have laser detect autofocus, and optical and electrical image stabilisation, while the Pixel 6a has standard autofocus with dual-pixel phase detection, though it too has OIS and EIS. The Google Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 and 6 Pro all share a similar design, though there are some variations between the three models, as you would expect.

While the Pixel 6 Pro isn’t the best smartphone money can buy right now, it comes pretty close. Google has stepped up its smartphone game lately, and this next-gen Android headliner is its crowning achievement. Don’t expect the Tensor processor to ace every benchmark—it won’t. Most smartphone benchmarks are poor indicators of everyday performance anyway, and some manufacturers capitalize on the public thirst for high scores by optimizing their chips and software specifically for benchmarks.
