About this deal

The plot seems interesting, right? Well, the book is not interesting at all. The book was made extremely boring because of the long conversations made by each character in each chapter. The writing was simple and not at all suspenseful. The only good thing about this book was that I could somehow keep on reading it. It wasn't gripping or anything, the story was a bit good so I thought of continuing it. As the team start to close in on the huge drug operation that is run by Ahmed Rashidi, they only have one option for how they can secure his arrest. It’s a risky plan as it truly involves being hidden in plain sight. Will William and the team come out successful? I have long been a fan of most anything that Jeffrey Archer puts to paper, having amassed a large quantity of high quality novels. This new series, which is actually the collection of writing referenced repeatedly throughout the Clifton Chronicles, may be set in the 1980s, but can easily hold the attention of the dedicated thriller fan. Although the story continues from Book One, there is enough detail to read this as a stand-alone but I really enjoyed learning more about the original cast and many new ones too. The plot takes a surprising number of turns and twists throughout the novel, many of which are not expected. In addition to the excitement of unravelling the mystery and mastery of the drug lord, this book features a number of touching moments that are shared between William and Beth, William and his father, and Grace and her father. These moments contributed to the book's overall appeal and applause-worthy quality.

I really appreciate the author’s way of engaging the reader in the story, in a sense that these characters start feeling like family/friends and we want everything to go good for them. Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and the incredible Lord Jeffrey Archer for an advance copy.

The only task that holds greater importance for William is the fast approaching day of his wedding to Beth. They have become devoted to one another since the turmoil experienced as part of the previous book, Nothing Ventured. And so, on the big day, the only thing that can - and does - disrupt their happy day comes in the form of William’s nemesis, Malcolm Faulkner. But despite his best attempts at ruining the day, his plans are foiled, as has become routine, and William and his bride embark on their honeymoon. The man the investigation focuses on, who runs this drug trade, is known only as the Viper and he’s particularly careful when it comes to his movements. Infiltrating the Viper’s nest is going to be an all-consuming and difficult job. Worse than that, I’m afraid. They didn’t even turn up, and neither did the shipment of diamonds. I spent an evening with twenty of my men armed to the teeth, staring out to sea. So do tell me the good news, sir.’We are still treated to updates on William’s personal life and it was lovely to see his relationship with Beth grow and to follow them on the next steps in their lives. I really liked the way that Jeffrey Archer mixed the personal struggles with the professional ones. It worked particularly well in this book and made me feel a closer connection to the story and the characters.

As William’s team closes the net around a criminal network like none they have ever faced before, he devises a trap they would never expect, one that is hidden in plain sight… But as William and his team close the net around a criminal network unlike any they have ever encountered, he is also faced with an old enemy, Miles Faulkner. It will take all of William’s cunning to devise a means to bring both men to justice, a trap neither will expect, one that is hidden in plain sight . . . Rather you than me,’ said Lamont with a sigh. ‘However,’ continued the commander, ‘the commissioner, in his wisdom, felt a winning team shouldn’t be broken up, so you two will be joining him as part of an elite drugs unit on the first of the month.’Mrs Faulkner will be well aware of any other criminal activities her husband is involved in, which would be useful for us to know about,’ said Lamont, ‘in advance.
