About this deal

Set the brightness and speed of how your lights sync depending on the type of content you’re playing or watching (or your mood).1

Nanoleaf Shapes look absolutely fantastic on your wall. You'll need to spend some time arranging them so that you can create your desired shape out of the hexagonal pieces. Once you do though, they'll look great either beyond or above your TV, mirroring what goes on during the movie or game and adding some much-needed atmosphere to your setup. The Sync Box creates bursts of color during explosions and dramatic ambiance during tense scenes is unlike other things people do to enhance the movie watching experience. Adding pricey rear speakers, a sub, or other things to a TV area might not even be as worthwhile as adding a Sync Box would. Although Hue Sync is a cool app, it only works with content that comes from your Windows or Mac PC and doesn't work with content streamed directly to your smart TV, nor does it work with Blu-ray players and gaming consoles. Installation and Performance That said, the constant glow on every show, movie, or onscreen content could be distracting depending on if you keep the lighting effect on all the time.

Philips Hue Play Review

Once the Sync Box is powered on and connected to the TV, the device uses a separate Hue app called Hue Sync, which uses the lights set up in the main app's "Entertainment" area, to control the Sync Box and start and stop syncing. If you weren't aware, Hue lights matching what's on a screen has been capable for a long time, just not for people's TVs. Hue Sync has been available for desktop computers for over a year and it was a bit confusing why this functionality wasn't available for the main place this would make sense. You'll need to commit to a set size light strip that works for you and your TV – 55-inch, 65-inch, or 75-inch – so if you’re planning to upgrade soon, it's a wise idea to hold off till you know what size you're getting. Also, bear in mind you'll need to have a couple of apps installed – Hue and Hue Sync – to work the controls fully, but that's not a tremendous hardship when the results look this good. Connect up to four HDMI devices — set-top boxes, gaming consoles, and more — and plug directly into any TV.

So, yes it doesn’t work along with ordinary TV’s and Netflix but this is why you invest into the same make tv with the lighting system. November 28th, 2019 Reply The Hue Play can sync with the colors on your PC monitor with help from the Hue Sync app for Windows 10 and macOS. Ciao a tutti. Volevo sapere se funzionano senza il collegamento ad internet. Volevo usarlo come ambilight per in mio tv non connesso. E POSSIBBILE? Dove si acquistano ? November 12th, 2018 Reply

Amp up your movie nights with this HDMI-powered light show

So the Philips Hue Play Light bar has landed, lights that are designed specifically with Hue sync in mind, the Philips app that syncs on-screen action and music with your lights. Philips Hue Play Review There are four HDMI inputs to accommodate an adequate number of sources, but be warned that may be a limiting factor for some people. While you don't need to plug everything into the Sync Box — just the items you want to match with the light colors — having inputs flowing through various inputs may affect how you control your TV or attached devices. I have been thinking of replacing my under cabinet lighting with these. Thoughts? January 3rd, 2019 Reply They are big, so maybe seen, depends how you plan to use and fit them. The light is good and better than a light strip, just installing them in a way so they are hidden. January 3rd, 2019 Reply If you've already got a few Philips Hue bits and pieces in your smart home, then the Philips Hue Play Gradient Light Strip is a bit of a no-brainer option. That's because it works brilliantly alongside Hue bulbs, and it requires the use of the Philips HDMI Sync Box to work correctly with your TV content.

For most 2022 and newer Samsung TVs, the Hue Sync TV app lets you sync your lights to anything on the screen.1 For my set up, they are magnificent and the cable length is also (just) right … April 1st, 2020 Reply Tap the Settings button to connect to your lights from anywhere using your phone, configure the Hue Bridge, add a new Bridge, and set up rooms. Here you can also add new lights and accessories such as Hue dimmer switches and motion sensors, create entertainment areas for use with Hue Sync, and enable HomeKit and Siri control. Hue Sync is a Windows PC/Mac desktop app that lets you sync the Play Bars (and other Hue lights) with music, movies, and gaming action. For example, when synced with movies, the lights will mimic the predominant colors on the screen, and when synced with music the lights will change to the beat. You can also place the Play Bars behind your monitor while gaming to have them change colors that match the action. Since I went with the lights to complement my room lighting and desk setup, I utilized the included stands to place both lights in a vertical position on each side of my monitor. The plain, thin, design makes the lights look like speakers on my desk and doesn't scream "smart connected lighting", which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. The lights "face" the wall behind my desk, and when illuminated, they give off just the right amount of light, and do not cause any visual distractions. If you have a Philips Hue Bridge in your home, or don’t mind adding one, the Philips Hue Play light bars can deliver bias lighting to your home theater. They’re even better as a responsive bias lighting for your PC monitor, though, especially if you’re a gamer. In terms of the lights they are better than other Hue lights, such as light strips, they are diffused and give a good crisp color, however these are just lights like other hue products. The means to using them via your TV still isn’t here other than using Hue Sync via a computer like you say. November 17th, 2018 Reply The advertising is very misleading, imho. From what I can tell so far is that these are no more useful than the other Hue lights I have. I was under the impression that I could actually sync these with my tct, but just like regular Hue products, this is only possible through Hue sync. You could do this with any of the lights. Basically, you can only sync through a computer and not with regular TV programming. Perhaps the biggest downside to the Play Bar is that it does require the Philips Hue Hub for just about everything. The hub requirement applies to not just the smart side of things, but also for simply turning the lights on and off without pulling the plug. There are no physical switches or buttons to be found on-device, which is understandable for bias lighting, but it still would have been nice to be able to manually toggle colors or power if needed. As I have already alluded to, I absolutely enjoyed seeing the area around my desk lighting up with bright and vivid colors throughout the day. At first, I paired the Play Bars with a HomeKit remote and had it set to simply change it to a single color. Eventually I came around to trying some of the scenes available through the Philips Hue app, and settled on using the Colorloop formula under the Hue Labs section.

The light bars themselves are well designed and built, the base of them have a rubber angled base so they are titled towards a wall to shine up against, ideal for use on a desk or table top if they are not mounted. One thing that stands out is the light itself, it is well diffused so there is no sign of any of the LEDs inside, unlike the Hue Light strip where the LEDs are obvious and isn’t really diffused at all.If you already have a Philips Hue Bridge, the Philips Hue Play makes for a nifty way to add bias lighting to your home theater setup, or (even better) as a responsive bias light for your computer monitor. The effect the Hue Play Box creates is stunning and makes certain movies and shows really fun to watch. It will engage you in a way that should delight most people. The setup was simple enough for anyone who already owns Hue lights and feels comfortable unplugging an HDMI cable or two. This box draws no attention to itself and is all about the presentation it creates.
