She was an active, adventuresome, curious little girl who fell madly in love and married, raised children (put up with her cranky mother), and then had to take over and manage her war-damaged husband when he returned from the horrors of WW1. Sadie glanced around, searching for something to prove her wrong. She could hear running water not too far away, and a bird that might have been a raven was watching her from the branch of a nearby willow. She noted great stretches of long rustling grass and the occasional gnarled tree, but nothing human as far as the eye could see. Both World War I and II have tragic and far-reaching effects on the characters and narrative of The Lake House. Discuss.

Only one of the endings turned out the way I expected, and I wish that had gone into more depth. Who knows? Maybe Kate Morton will write about it in another book; I hope so!
