The LG G3 delivers an exceptional gaming performance with input lag as low as 9.2ms at 60fps in “Game Optimiser” mode, halving to around 4.7ms at 120fps with Boost Mode engaged. Its four HDMI 2.1 ports support the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth of 48Gbits/sec, permitting 4K 120Hz gameplay at 12-bit 4:4:4 resolution. HGiG support is implemented correctly, allowing for higher peak brightness without double tone-mapping in compatible HDR games. There were no other steps to get it up and running, I just switched on the set once plugged into power and was greeted with a bright setup walkthrough, which felt somewhat invasive with all its questions, but this seems increasingly standard with smart TVs.

Unique to the G3 series in LG's range, MLA technology involves applying a huge number of tiny lenses just behind the screen that focus the light coming from the OLED pixels towards the viewer more directly, reducing the amount of light that gets lost on its journey through the OLED panel and out into your living room. The main talking point of the G3 is its brightness. LG traditionally debuts new light-enhancing tech in its pricier G Series models before bringing those features to lesser models, and it’s no different this year. This streamlined feature allows for easy adjustments of volume, brightness, picture mode and other common settings, making it more convenient to fine-tune your viewing experience. However, while the improvements LG has brought to the OLED65G3's pictures are unequivocally outstanding, the same can't be said of its sound system. Although its higher peak brightness has rightly hogged the limelight, the increased light scattering from MLA brings another key benefit, virtually eradicating the off-axis pink tint and luminance drop normally seen on WRGB OLED panels, resulting in some of the widest viewing angles seen on a consumer OLED TV.The folders add an extra layer to the content exploration process, but the system is flexible enough about letting you decide what gets priority to make it feel like a handy improvement overall.

It does, to my eyes, still feature a little green tint in places but not as much as it did before. The audio performance disappoints, and this being LG’s flagship OLED, I’d have expected better.

Cinematic Movement is the least aggressive, stabilising 24fps content but not necessarily removing its natural stutter. Natural isn’t as the name implies, with more jittery movement watching 1917 and it also has the effect of making the lower half of the soldiers’ bodies look a little fake. Connections are all built into the TV, rather than using an external connections box as might have been a nice option for a TV so focused on wall mounting. The connections are pleasingly numerous, though, including in four HDMI ports that all support the full 48Gbps bandwidth possible with the latest 2.1 standard - meaning they all support the latest console and PC gaming features. This is a terrifically bright HDR performance, one that – in its Dolby Vision and Filmmaker modes – respects the creative intent of the source. That said, even compared to 2022’s Sony A95K, there are still areas where the A95K is better.The G3 and Z3 models come with a built-in ATSC 3.0 tuner to meet the latest signal standard in TV broadcasts in the US – and you won’t find this in the cheaper C3 / B3 models. As was the case with G2, the G3 is primarily designed for wall mounting, so doesn’t come with a tabletop stand. The G2 was referred to as LG’s “Gallery edition” OLED for this reason, but the brand is marketing the G3’s design as “Zero Gap” due to the way it fits flush against your wall. In terms of native 10-bit gradation, there was some posterisation in the skies of The Martian, but I was able to suppress it effectively by using the Smooth Gradation de-contouring filter. From the rear view, the OLED65G3 is uniformly flat to sit flush against a wall. Connections are both side and downward facing, positioned on the left-hand side (as you look at the TV). There are clips to slide cables through to keep the rear area free and navigate out the bottom of the TV. LG states that this is largely down to improvements made to its colour processing - though I guess it's also true that the way MLA works means there isn’t actually much more brightness being produced by the OLED pixels than there was before. The brightness increase is predominantly down to the light the OLEDs being produced emerging through the screen more efficiently.
