About this deal

It’s a three-pedal setup: accelerator, brake and clutch. Each has a different tension style, mirroring what you get in a real car. The important improvement in the G29 is the brake. It’s progressive, with more tension at the end of its depression to give you much better control over the force of the brake and a more realistic. It’s a big improvement over the old wheels, and the pedal set included with the Thrustmaster T300 RS. But after spending some time with the G29 or G920, you start to become aware of its downside. Those gears produce a lot of spiking and jumping. Wheels like the Logitech G29 Driving Force make driving games far more engaging, perhaps too much for those days when you just want to let you brain quietly vegetate after a stressful day of work. GT Omega is a market leader for sim racing rigs and is known for having reliable and durable products. With this stand you will get a quality product for a good price, making it a great value. For compatibility, you can mount most sim racing wheels, such as Logitech, Thrustmaster, and Fanatec. One of the cool things about this stand is the ability to upgrade it with a racing seat, making it a full sim rig. This means that you can buy this stand and have a strong base to build off of in the future.

Added a connection point on the top siding to secure the stand in a folded position (without leaning on the steering wheel) But our favorite feature is the ability to upgrade this simple wheel stand into a full blown sim racing rig. Next Level Racing offers a racing seat and monitor stand attachment that is compatible with this stand. That gives you a nice upgrade path in the future without the huge upfront cost and commitment to a full rig.

Our Verdict

The far left pedal is the clutch pedal, the middle is the braking, and the far-right pedal is the accelerator pedal. Aside from the decent pedals and the questionable colourful bonus buttons, one of the neat extra features of the Logitech G29 is the LED display that sits just above the wheel’s centre. This acts as a rev counter, letting you tell when it’s time to change gears — particularly useful if you have the sound down low. Much like the main wheel itself, the pedals that come in this wheel bundle are well designed and look the part. They feature a plastic base, with three metal pedals. The Logitech G29 and the G920 are two racing wheels, which are both almost identical. The G29 is compatible with PlayStation consoles and PCs. And the G920 is the Xbox compatible racing wheel. Both look and function almost identically, with the exception of the PS4 having an extra dial on the front. This is especially present when you hit a large bump or rumble strip. The wheel feels like it skips a gear or two, making the car feel light. This isn’t accurate and when you’re not expecting it can catch you out.

Since buying the G29, we’ve gone on to own and drive with a complete range of racing wheels. From Thrustmaster equivalents, up to the extreme power of Fanatec’s direct-drive racing wheels. But we have always kept our humble G920, and it still gets it’s time in the spotlight from time to time. Unlike many other sim racing wheels, the Logitech wheels are not customize-able in any way. Unless you start unbolting things, which you really aren’t supposed to! The wheel itself comes firmly bolted onto the wheelbase, and you aren’t meant to change this. Whether you love the colour injection or hate it, it’s not as though Logitech gives you any choice. And for something that’s going to be consigned to wherever you game (or, as is quite likely, the cupboard 95 per cent of the time) does it matter? Our top sim racing wheel stand for the Logitech G29/G90 is the Next Level Racing Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0. This is about as premium as a wheel stand can get without being a full blown rig. We imagine some of you will be owners of older Logitech G-series wheels wondering whether you should upgrade or not. If you’re after PS4 support, the old wheels will do you no good. They don’t work with the console, despite a 20,000-strong petition to get Logitech to add PS4 support (which some claim would be possible). But despite this, these pedals do a good job of allowing you to brake consistently every lap. The brake itself utilizes a resistor giving it a reasonably realistic feel. Essentially the further you push the brake, the harder it becomes to press. The parts are cut from 3/4" plywood. I generally prefer to use Baltic birch plywood because its dense layers makes for an attractive edge, and its generally free of voids which is nice when you're cutting partial depth slots as I am here. It is slightly heavier than other less-dense plywood but I find the trade-off to be worth it.

Some Logitech G27 owners went as far as to emulate this brake feel by putting a sliced-in-half tennis ball under the pedal, so it’s good to see Logitech has taken this on-board. The Logitech has been around for quite a bit of time now, and it has stood the test of time well. For the past five years, the G29 has had a good grip on the “My first racing wheel” consumer. I have replaced the original spring in the brake pedal to a variable spring, to improve the feeling and I have added magnetic shifters to give a more tactile feel. If you are completely new to sim racing, the Logitech G29 racing wheel is a fantastic place to start your journey. It is almost the most natural way to start. First, the stand is not really noticeably lighter than the old one. I would cut some "speed holes" into the base-plate specifically to lighten it up. Also, I messed up when cutting the mounting holes for the pedal-box so the inside pair of bolts do not line up. The bolt pattern for this pedal-box is asymmetric, and I accidentally cut mine with the inside bolts offset towards the wrong side (they would be perfect if the pedal-box was turned 180 degrees, but of course that would make it difficult to drive). No big deal since the 4 outside bolts are more than enough to hold it.As far as adjustability, this stand allows you to adjust the wheel height, wheel angle, pedal position, and even which side the shifter is mounted on. Even with the sturdy steel frame and adjustments, you can still fold this stand up in seconds and store it away when not in use.

There’s no bonus bling to the pedalboard, and it is one of the strongest reasons to recommend the Logitech G29 over its Thrustmaster rivals. While the base is plastic, the board is substantial, needing less securing than the oldest G-series sets. The feel of the Logitech G29 wheel is pretty much identical to the older G27. It seems it’s built to withstand punishment, and is far hardier than the cheap wheels you may have used until now. However, the upholstery is not quite supercar-grade: there was a bit of flabby flappiness to two parts on the rear. machine screws & hardware (I used 5/16"-18 threaded inserts, 2 1/2" long bolts and knobs that I already had, but any kind of machine screw or bolt hardware that can attach the upper and lower sub-assemblies would work) You get the extra controls on the faceplate, plus a new feel to the brake pedal. There are probably tweaks to the internals, but these are the main differences we noted.in diameter, with a largely metal frame and finished with leather, it has a high-end-enough build to just-about give you enough ammunition to convince people it’s not a toy. Yes, we know it is one really. I designed the stand in Pro/Engineer, and output .dxf files that I can open in Cut2D to generate the G-code I need to cut it on my homebuilt CNC router. The pedal-box hole layout on the baseplate is specific to the G920 and probably won't work with other brands, but the top plate should work with any wheel that has a clamping mechanism (I used the built-in clamps on mine even though it has threaded inserts for mounting bolts).
